What do you guys think? Going in the rear, spool and Yukon 5.29's. .110 shim. Would you run it? My first time setting one up. I think it is where it needs to be. Flame away!
pinion depth is right on....running a little to the inside of the tooth and running more backlash can help that. What kind of paint did you use and what is the present backlash?
These pics a little better than the ones I showed you before Zuk.
(Damn those disposables). 100% improvement.
Had to try out the new digital camera. (It's sweet).
Paint is some type of Permatex marking compound. If Randy would fill that little container up I might not of had to run around trying to find some, a buddy had it for who knows how long.
Just checked the permatex site and it wasnt on there ??
I will be getting some from Randy when I get the front gearset. Yellow is a lot easier to see.
Backlash is right on at .008 and (varied by .001), the other side of the gear showed .009.
Its called Prushen Blue (sp.) I can get you some if you want. And it only takes a few little drops. You dont need to mark the whole ring gear just 5-6 teeth. McHenry's keeps it in stock just for me. Talk to Ted he will know what you want.
And do you want me to keep bugging you to help me ...... ...... . I dont think so. Gotta learn sometime. I got plenty of the blue right now. And I didnt paint the (whole thing) . :flipoff2:
Looks perfect to me, I prefer my setups on new gears toward the toe end. The gear is strongest there, and the pattern seems to move up the face of the gear as they break in. Run it!
RUN IT! Whats the worst that will happen, make a little noise, and then break. So you haqve to drive home in front wheel drive.... LOL Although it does look like it could use a little less backlash, but I can't tell if is just a shadow. Bring it buy work and let me take a look if you want.

anybody that has ever set up a diff looking at that pattern would know it needs less back lash to make the tooth contact move down toward the root where it is stronger. but try .010 it cant hurt right?
Jamison....you ain't getting noise with that pattern. It will run quiet whether you have lots or little backlash. Stuff a rag good and tight between the ring gear and the case when you run a pattern.....it will offer resistance which paints a better pattern. Nice camera--is it a mavica?
take a look at this website.... http://www.reiderracing.com/reidertech_contact.htm ....it looks a bit like "F" . Each housing is a little different...so is each gearset... so the perfect gear pattern is a "dream on" thing. Jamison---make sure them carrier bearings are cranked tight when doing the pattern....especially with a rag rammed in there that is trying to find play in the bearings to screw up your pattern.
CD Mavica 250 uses mini cdr- and cdr-w disks. holds 635 pics on 640x480 fine. Take them, pop the disk in copy erase and use again. Cant beat that. Very pleased. Holds up to 90 minute movie with zoom and sound too. Always a plus.
I will adjust the backlash and see where its at. Thanks for all your help everybody.
No time to get the backlash changed. The welded carrier in the rear decided to spit chuncks on Thursday night. So Saturday was spent putting in the newly set up diff.
Right on time huh. .
I broke it in with 15 mile trips all day long on Sat. and Sun. Work 75 miles away. So it got its test today. Engine is screaming though. Need to get me some big meats on there now to compensate. I am glad to get some power back either way.
