I gotta tub my firewall first, then break in the R&P's. I also need to put a hitch on the back of my tow rig.

After flexing the suspension for the first time, I noticed several things that needed changing. First, and foremost, on full stuff, the front tires would contact the body seam at the rear of the fenderwell. I did a search and found a lot of info. Here are the results of that:
First I cut out the offending sheet metal. I used three different tools: an air body saw, a sawzall, and a die grinder with a cutoff wheel. You have to be real careful when using the sawzall- it's aggressive.

Then I made a template and transferred it to a piece of 16 ga steel. I cut it out with a plasma torch and skip welded it into position.

I then reflexed the suspension again until I was at full compression, indicated by one wheel lifting. Nothing made contact. The rear tire looks really close, but there is some daylight there.

When those springs 'break in', it'll stuff more.... and probably rub the tubbed firewall a little bit. Which is cool... 'cause it end up being just right!
Update us! This build keeps me going!

yep your right. i looked back and its probably no more than 2inches cut out. well dang thats a lot a of room left and im sure the springs wont break in that much, on my rig i was able to only cut the front and back and still have the factory look on the middle/top of my fender maybe if i ditch the 39.5's and get 42's i could get a reason to cut more Last edited by drewp; 09-22-2010 at 10:19 PM. |

The only new update is I added a set of rock sliders (pre-fabbed
). I've been doing some driving and getting used to the rig. The one thing I can say is that since installing the "bomb proof" motor mounts, there is alot more vibration. But, I expected that and I can live with it. Warpig- any word on your front axle situation?
