oh and since your in ca you may as well know if its not a trail rig you will need everything from the s10 to get it by the smog nazis I modified my toyota tank to except the chevy fuel pump complete. Thought this was going to be a pain but worked out fine mounted the chevy vapor crap under the back of the bed. By the way 2003 4.3 are rated at much higher hp

I put a 4.3 vortec out of a 98 s-15 jimmy into an 86 s-15 jimmy a few years ago. Parted the truck out and still have the harness and ecu I bought for it. The harness should be the same for all years of 4.3L Vortec, they didn't change the hardware end of the motor at all during the years, only software/programming. It is a painless harness and just a stock ecu flashed for 97 5spd manual. PM me if you're interested in purchasing it, I'll give both to ya for a good price.

Send a message via AIM to 4runner
I used a Painless in mine...

now I have swapped out the 5spd for a 700R4 I need to get teh ECU updated...
I am using the small silver box ECU rather than the big black box(OBD??) and had to swap to the small distributor for it to work...

I guess I need to call Jims and see if they can help me.

well seems they changed a few other things such as removed the egr valve so then you would need to change the intake to the older style , I found out all kinds of things durring this project. But the engines supose to have more hp
