July 4th West Virginia - Annual offroad Jambo

It's time to sign up for our Annual Jamboree.
The event will consist two days of guided trail rides, from stock to extreme, and probably a Thursday night run, and sunday run if there is enough people interested.

A pig roast with all the fixings, raffles, and fireworks display will be on Sat. July 5th. The facilities are top quality, and close to town.

We have some good trails for the novice/slightly modified to the trailer queen that doesn't want to bring it back without damage.

Click on the link to register, if you have any questions pm me.

http://www.mountaineeroffroad.com/

Some of our harder trails have by passes to avoid the nasty obstacles.

Level 1 - Stock rigs, novice driver, good tires required
(don't bring a RAV4, CRV, or Subaru)

Level 2 - Stock rigs with good tires and good drivers, mildly modified rigs, traction aids a plus, some recovery equipment a plus.

Level 3 - Modified vehicles, 33's and up (31's on suzuki)
One locker required. Two lockers preferred, winch preferred.

Level 4 - Heavily modified vehicles, 2 lockers and winch required. Spare parts preferred, damage likely

Level 5 - Extremely modified vehicles only, bring your own tools and parts. You probably won't leave without breaking, or tearing something up.

These trail ratings are based on the expected conditions in July (fairly dry), if we get much rain some trails will be impassible without a winch. It is possible to let some non-winch vehicles in these groups if we can get two winch equipped vehicles to volunteer to winch them before we leave camp.

If your live in the area, and are interested in joining Mountaineer Offroad, please contact me.

The jamboree is located between Fayetteville and Sumersville. Most of our trails are within 15-20 miles of the camp. There is parking for trailered rigs at the trail head.

HERE ARE THE MOST RECENT TRAIL REPORTS

The Creek – Level 4, with some Level 5 sections
Several miles of rocky creek bottom, a service road closely follows the trail to allow people to go around the rougher sections. This trail is level 3 capable if drivers are willing to bypass rough sections.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 4
Roll over risk – 2
Parts Breakage – 4

Sacrifice – Level 4 to 5
It consists of an old log road up a steep hill. Simple enough? Not really, a very large rut runs down the middle of the road. Some drivers with enough power, tires, and luck make it up the hill without ending up in the rut. The other 99% end up in the rut, on their side, and with sheet metal crunching, tires spinning and winching, to go the rest of the way up. No one has ever drove through the rut or made it out of the rut without winching. Body damage highly likely and winch required.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 4
Roll over risk – 4
Parts Breakage – 3.5

Clutch Creek (NEW for 2003) Level 5
A very narrow, rocky wash that leads into the head of a steep side hollow. Several large boulders, loose rocks, large ledges, and the steep slope at the end require a winch. Full size rigs may not be able to make it all (one Tellico - Lower 2 veteran said he won’t fit). There is only one way out, and that is with a winch. Body damage highly likely and winch required. If you have enough rig left at the end, you can attempt “The Diablo” exit, no one has been brave enough to run it to date. (We’ll probably run it later this month).
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 5
Roll over risk – 4
Parts Breakage - 5

Guardian Waterfall (NEW for 2003) Level 3 – winch required
The waterfall rejects short wheel based rigs, longer one’s can make it look easy. The trail continues up past the waterfall, through several rocky sections, and three slimy banks that require many to pull out the winch cable. The trail is short but will take all day if wet.

Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 2.5
Parts Breakage - 1

The River Trail – Level 2 (3 if run backwards)
It’s a nice scenic trail that has several loose rocky hill climbs, and two washouts that are moderately off-camber.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 2.5
Parts Breakage - 1

Spider Ridge – Level 2 (3 if run backwards)
Gas well service roads take you up to the ridge overlooking the Gauley River and logging roads wind you through Spider Ridge. Several rutted hills, shallow mud holes, and steep descents will test the skill levels of drivers and their rigs.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 2
Parts Breakage - 1

The Rock Garden – Level varies (access is level 1)
This is one of our favorite playgrounds. It is located on an abandoned mountain top removal mine. A channel lined with large boulders provides different levels of difficulty. It’s a great confidence builder, easy to access, easy vehicle recovery, great for photos, and spectators. Easy access in and out to avoid the rough sections.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – min. 3 (varies)
Roll over risk – min. 2 (varies)
Parts Breakage – min. 3 (varies)

Pine Knoll – Level 2 (3 to 4 if wet)
This one is a favorite for visitors. The trails consist of a mud hole ridge ending at the “Refrigerator Hole”. Plenty of room for rigs to pull down and watch the attempts into the Refrigerator Hole. Trails then wind through the mountains to an abandoned strip mine. Rut hill always seem to claim at least one “flop victim” per jamboree. The abandoned mine offers a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside, has different hill climbs, and large open areas to play. This trail is easily done with stock rigs with good tires. However, a little rain can make it very difficult. It’s a good all day ride that can handle larger groups.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 1.5
Roll over risk – 2 (higher if wet)
Parts Breakage - 1

Hummer Hill – Level 3
This is a short trail run that runs from the Creek up to Rock Garden. Loose rocks, and ruts make it very difficult to traverse without at least one locking differential. Roll overs are not common, but have happened before. This is not for the faint of heart, or novice. Once the hill is traversed, a series of service roads take you back around to the rock garden for some play time.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 3
Parts Breakage - 2

Twenty Mile – Level 1
This trail winds through numerous creek crossing and has several hill climbs. It’s a great run for; stock vehicles, novice drivers, or to cool off while splashing through creeks and enjoying the view of the mountainous terrain.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 1
Roll over risk – 1
Parts Breakage - 1

Alter Ridge – Level 1 to 2
The trail runs from the creek trail up the mountain to the Rock Garden. Several hillclimbs and off camber sections will provide experience, and help build confidence for the drivers that are not looking for a death defying experience.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 1
Roll over risk – 2
Parts Breakage - 1

Left Fork – Level 2
Small to medium sized rocks and one off-camber ledge provide fun for drivers just getting used to rock crawling, or running a stock vehicle with a capable driver. Usually this trail is run in conjunction with Old School or Alter Ridge depending on the skill level in the group.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 1
Parts Breakage - 2

Cracker Hill – (NEW for 2003) Level 5
A deep ravine on a steep incline guarantees body damage and use of a winch.
This trail is still being developed, and more details will be ready before the Jamboree.
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 5
Roll over risk – 5
Parts Breakage - 5

Old School – Level 3 but winch required (4 if wet)
Long steep, loose, rutted hill climbs, a few off-camber sections take you from the bottom to the top in a short steep series of old log roads. Winching is almost always required on the last section. (This is where the blue flat-fender rolled backwards last year).
Ratings (1-5):
Body Damage – 2
Roll over risk – 3
Parts Breakage - 2

Here's JY4Rox on the entrance to the Gaurdian Waterfall trail.
The entrance is a near verticle rock ledge.
Some longer wheel bases make it look easy. YJ/TJ wheel bases it is tough, and Suzuki (80") it's impossible without assistance.

I can't wait to come up and get on a few more of the trails.

Just ordered a winch, so I'll be a little more prepared this time. No more sliding off the side of a mountain for me.

I know that's a new concept for you, but someday you'll figure out your supposed to wheel them instead of work on them.

Why do I need a snatch block? You've always got one.

I was looking at the specs, and the M8000 pulls 435 amps at 8000 lbs. load!

I knew they pulled a lot of juice, but damn!

Well when you own a jeep you have to work on them before you wheel them

I am going to be cutting it close to get this thing ready for the jambo

Yeah Jacob that new Atlas will be sweet for crawling over the tools on tha shop floor. Work faster---you may want to start riding the quad at Swiss to find some trails those rockwells will fit on.

Ben--buy a good battery, I am on my 3rd Autozone 1000 amp battery. These warns draw some serious amperage under a heavy load.
