Dorrington/Boards crossing rd area

I keep on seeing convoys of built rigs heading south on Boards crossing rd. Does anybody know what trail they are running in this area? Thanks.

I know there is a trail that parallels (upstream) the NF Stanislaus. It begins at the Boards Crossing bridge. It's supposed tobe short and easy though.

It's the Pine Needle Flat trail a.k.a. Sourgrass. It's our club's adopt-a-trail. We were just up there two weeks ago for some trail clean up.

It's a good newbie run, has some nice camping spots along the river and goes in about 1.5 miles.

Ouch! Maybe we don't cross his turf, we normally pick up Hwy 4 in Stockton and follow up to Angels Camp, so we don't go thru San Andreas. Or maybe we've been lucky. Sometimes our caravan is up to 12 rigs, he would have a heyday with mud flap violations, etc.

We know about that jerk.... got a fixer once from him. We avoid that area like the plague, but if we do pass thru, it is either very early or very late in the day. Seems CHP don't patrol that early or that late....knock on wood.

I remember a while ago we used to run this trail, then we got a nasty-gram from this dickhead lawyer because we had pics of that trail posted on our web site...he told us to remove the photos from our web site because we were "trespassing" on the trail... it's a decent trail, with some nice camping by the river, but I'm not sure what the status of the trail is (openn to the public??) so we havn'et botherd wheel'n there in years.. there are better places to wheel farther up hwy 4 anyways...

That was the Ramsey trail just below the little ski resort. It has been gated now for a couple of years. Yeah, it had a couple of nice rock gardens down toward the bottom.

is that the same trail that has the water crossing at the bottom and which was recently shown seen in one of the 4wd rags?

Yes, the Ramsey trail was in one of the mag's receintly. The trail that was mentioned before was much better around 10 years ago. It used to parallel the river and near the end it would split and turn right up the side of the hill, eventually connecting with the main logging road at the top.

My wife and I went in there to camp at the very end next to the river and almost got caught in there one time by a forest fire. . We went in on a Monday, knowone was around, started drinking beer and fishing when I saw smoke. I went back down the road ~ 1/8 mile and everything was on fire. Long story short we got out and got the CDF and I drove them back in there so they could do there job. They were all looking at me like it was my fault. but when we got in there the head fire guy showed me where the fire had gone underground from someone elses campfire and poped up about 20 feet away. Everything was ok after that but my week long camping trip was fucked, we had inhaled so much smoke we couldnt stop coughing.

I've got a pic of me crossign the river there with water about 1-in below my seat... came out on the other side as a wall of water cascaded out over the tailgate as I went up that little hill.. was pretty funny to see on video!
