..Should I go for it? Anything of interest nearby that could entertain me and my wife, 3 yo son, and infant daughter? Not only limited to offroad or camping, but certainly interested in that as well.

There is some stuff around here. What are you into? Just alittle west of there is the best rabbit hunting in the US if you are into that. There is Interlake offroad park that is nearby.

Look up French Lick and you will find stuff to do. Holiday World is close and it is growing every year into a decent theme park.

Any specifics just ask.

Well, I'm interested in all things outdoors. The wife is interested in malls and stuff, I guess. My boy loves the outdoors too, and my daughter won't be born til September.

I'll look at the stuff you mentioned.

Your wife would have access to great shopping an hour and a half or so away if you lived there.

Great place to work that gives you lots of opportunities from a lifestyle stand point, i.e. very urban to very rural.

The area is a nice rural area of Indiana and has lots to offer in the way of small town life.

Commuting offers you more suburban settings.

No mountains, four distinct seasons, good fishing and hunting but no high power rifles to be used, shall issue state for hand gun and offer lfetime permit.

Some decent wheeling close by @ Interlake or to the south as well as the Badlands to the North. Lots of good privately held property in Indiana to wheel and there are several good private spots close to the area as well.

I don't work @ Crane but I know several who do and there are all shapes....there is a fellow I know who lives in Indy and commutes daily! He has a child that he wants to have in a school or program that they have decided is important.

Good Luck and if you need help or info let us know. In AUG is the largest slice of Indiana culture available to the masses in the IN State Fair. Great chance to eat some great food, get up close and personal w/all of the livestock, fowl and such, see the newest Tractors and ride the Merry Go Round. All things I am sure that Three year olds love!

P.S. Indy has a KILLER Children's Museum...

Awesome man, I appreciate you taking the time to write all that out. We're gonna be putting in our top choices this month after the new list comes out. As of right now, Crane is top 3. I'll post back to let everyone know how it goes.

Well....

I'm currently deployed, but I live in Bloomfield(home of Hi-Lift Jack Co.) which is 20min North of NSWC Crane, my wife works there as did I for a while. I have a lot of friends there as well. Very rural, low cost of living. Bloomington is our go to town for shopping and movies etc. It's about a half hour away. It's a college town(IU) some pretty good restaurants, decent mall.

As far as outdoor activities, Redbird SRA is our local wheeling spot about 20miles from Crane. Interlake is fairly close, the Badlands, and Haspin Acres are a couple hours away. As for non-wheeling activities, there is Patoka Lake, Lake Monroe, Boggs lake, several caves, casino and resorts at nearby French Lick. Crane is pretty much right on the Hoosier National forest area which covers a good portion of South Western IN.

I may sound like a real estate agent, but I moved to the area a couple years ago when I married a local and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I've got several wheelin buddies too so if you end up down there holler at me, if I can't answer a question about the area, I know someone who can.
