Propane Legality
ok, to start off i havent gotten anywhere witht he dmv.... nothing but circles of webpages and no returned emails.
i have a 78 blazer that wont pass smog... (too rich, but if you lean it up enough to pass it dont run any good...) i was considering converting it over to propane. anyone deal with the smog nazis on this issue? i am in washoe county and rather just run it on pane than try to mess with jetting everytime i smog it. from what i have read "alternative fuel" is smog exempt... what does NV considder AF? I also have a Sammy that i would be doing the same conversion to(but of course for more offroad stuff )

I recently smogged my Samurai that runs completely on propane. I am also in CA. Propane is legal. I would suggest calling one of your reputable smog shops and talking to them. They can tell you exactly what to do. If they won't help you contact one of the smog referees. My smog shop told me exactly what I needed to do.

ok, so I finally got some info back from the DMV... looks like more favorable info but there may be a catch.... here is what they said:
If your vehicle is converted to full time propane, then it would be exempt from emission testing. However, if it is part time propane and part time gasoline, then it would still require an emission test yearly. You should also contact the DMV Emissions Lab for any other details on this conversion as they will be able to answer your questions, and guide you on other requirements in order to be exempt. Their number is 775-684-3581.

plus instead of smogging every year we have to have annual inspections to ensure we haven't reverted back to gas. |

I have used a PO Box for my Driver's License and Registration for 2 4x4s and a number of trailers-- no problem. We live in Reno.
