Gauging interest in Sparks

Right now I am a washington guy. I am pretty tired of this state and my Father just recently moved there. How is the wheelin there and school for young kids? I know its much cheaper to live than it is here.

We recently moved our shop to sparks . I lived there for most of my life . The trails are great and very plentiful and most can be ran year 'round . The schools in my experience are average . My children are eight and ten now and attended school in Spanish Springs (Sparks)

Dont move here. Yeah it pretty year around but its expensive.....it rains 250+ days a year. Wheelin is ok but really muddy most of the time. The snow wheelin is great. Christina Gregsomething or other is a total bitch. She focuses on king county and everyone in the state pays for king county. The list goes on man. Im just tired of this place and would like to locate to a place with more sun.

Reno/Sparks area is great. Lots of trails close. Schools are like most places some good some bad just depends on what area.

We go to wenatchee wa at least 2 times a year and love the area but wouldnt want to live there because everything seems to cost more.

Cool

NV has awesome dirt roads and excellent rock crawling. There're deserts, mountains, playas, hunting galore. Like Tfab said, the schools are average, but some of the high schools are in the "top 1000" in the nation.

Roy is western WA near Tacoma, so rain galore. Reno/Sparks gets about 2-3 weeks of rain/snow a year (spread over the year). It usually snows one day and is gone from the roads the next. Sometimes the snow will stick around longer, sometimes not.

Right now house prices are low-low-low. Depending upon the WA selling price, you may able able to afford a really nice house. The average house has dropped ~50% in value since the 2005/2006 peak.

The unemployment rate is 12.5-13%, so it's not the best, but there are jobs (just not many).

It takes less than 30 minutes to drive across the entire valley. Lake Tahoe is right over the hill and there're some primo ski resorts (all within 2 hours drive). Pyramid Lake is about 40 minutes away for good fishing/boating.

Most of NV is BLM/federally managed so there's plenty of open space.

The state gov't can't balance a budget and the road dept spends money like there's no tomorrow.

This is the biggest little city because it is big (for the area, it covers the entire valley) and attempts to maintain a small town atmosphere (rather difficult with the CA influence).

Gas is ~$3/gal (87 octane) and ~$2.75/diesel.

Mass transit sucks (riding a bike takes less time). NV drivers are similar to WA, right-of-way means nothing and merging is a lost art.

Skies are clear 95% of the year, rarely have fog/inversion layer. Summers into the low 100's and winters about 0. A bit windy and an occasional fire.

for wheeling, check out reno4x4, therockgods, hillsangels4x4 and 4wheelnoffroad

wenatchee is a hellofa lot different than tacoma area (eastern WA vs. western WA), similar to comparing northern CA and southern CA.

I talked with the stores down there and they would be happy to bring me on as there window and door contractor. So that part i have taken care of. Getting insurance and a business license in cali and nevada should be fun.Its still up in the air.......Gotta get my better half to make up her mind first....mine already is.

There's a couple other trails nearby, Rubicon (60 miles) and Fordyce (60 miles).

I'd offer one up, but unfortunately before I can do anymore wheelin I need engine and tranny mounts...Shit is moving around left and right, up and down, forwards and backwards. The throttle cable likes to slip out of the guide and get stuck wide open.

Sam, Maybe a few of us can hook up with ya and do a trail ride or two while you're here... Like one of the other posters said, it's real slow here for jobs, There are a few wheelers in my area (Fernley) roughly 35ish miles from sparks, we have a lowes here. we are continuiously looking for some local trails here and hope to find a good one soon. I'll P.M. you my number if you'd like to hook up and run a trail or two...

All those post's I made over on NWW weren't a joke. it doesn't rain, barely snows, and there's 100x more wheeling than western WA.

ya just have to know the secret handshake to find all the cool trails

Only downfall is when it get's cold... it get's COLD!

and BTW... don't transfer your vehicle registration unless you have to. trust me on that one!
