Chicago to Black Hills South Dakota road trip

Hey guys, a friend and I are flying in to Detroit, picking up a rig he bought, and driving it back to cali. Plan on going through Chicago, then on to South Dakota(Black Hills), and home to Nor Cal from there.
Basically, Im looking for places that are worth while to stop and get some kick ass grub? Still planning the route, so thought I would throw this out there.

Any info would be great, thanks.

After the Black Hills, go to Cody WY, the Cody museum there and a cool, original old west town. Then head north up to Cook City, Montana first to Redlodge MT on the Beartooth Highway. That is an absolute must do!!!! That is a day.
Then go back to Cook City, stay the night. Your cell phone will NOT work there.
The next day, drive a mile east out of Cook City, head north, and wheel the Goose Lake Jeep trail. Bring bug repellent if there is still snow. Wheel up to Goose Lake, hike to a grasshopper glacier, yes there are bears there. Carry gear for bad weather as it can turn on you in 5 minutes. Yes, it will snow up there.
Then, spend the night in Gardiner MT, the NW entrance to the Park. You can stay at the Absaroka Beartooth lodge on the Yellowstone river in Gardiner. Call and reserve now.
Eat breakfast at the Town Cafe in Gardiner, it is a hidden local joint. Order the "Town special breakfast"
Enjoy Yellowstone park for a few days, then go where you want from there.
