Sorry about that. Brady didn't get the last sponsor info in until a couple of days ago and they had the posters/proof done in about a day. I figured someone should post it up. We didn't even know the date for sure less than a month ago...

ssyork,

you were on hal johns trail in the BH's a few weeks ago. I was on a trailride with that dick trailguide when we came up on you, hope you had fun in the BH. it was nice to see a few MT rigs in SD. Top Truck is always fun in Bozeman.

Yeah that was me, the one stuck on the easy stuff!! Thats what happens when you haven't been wheeling on anything worth a crap since march! Yeah that guy was a pecker head. Its alright to be a pecker head to me but you can still be nice to my wife! Needless to say we aren't signing up for Dakota Territory Challenge next year like we were talking about doing. If you guys ever want to head down look us up, that was my second trip and the other guys third. We know a decent amount of trails down there. We ran up surprise after that. What a great little run. Made it through the hard stuff at the beginning and then smoked the rear d line. We were just finishing coming out onto the road again, and had to use the winch since I was in front only. Anyways one of the DTC trail guys stopped and asked if everyone was ok and said we could use his rig as a winch point. Then the other DTC guy yelled at him "you can't talk to them, they aren't with us!" The guy made sure we were ok, then went back down to his rig. Then we could hear him getting his ass chewed by the other guy for just talking to us! Needless to say we are not impressed with the DTC guys and will never be paying to go to their event. Also will never let them by on the trail again. All of the participants were super nice though. We are heading back down in Oct sometime if anyone wants to go. Taking a spare rear d line instead of just a front this time! Here are a few pics from surprise.

Just another note. We ran into some other guys from the club and told them about pecker boy. They immediately ask if he was in a certain color, certain type of rig. Apologized for him and told us not everyone in the club is like him. Even ask if we wanted to join them the next day.

Um yeah Jones is a interesting guy. He's got some different ideas for sure. His point is that there was a group of people that paid for this event and you shouldn't be messing around with others before the paid group.

DTC participants are our first and pretty much only priority, other then safety of course. I mean what would you think if you were in a paid group and got held up by someone in front of you that wasn't part of it? Would be somewhat annoying. But there were billions of ways he could have handled it better.

Or something along those lines. He does have good points (and some not so good) but carries them a bit too far. He also has an idea of what kind of rigs should be on the trail and doesn't spend much time on those he doesn't like.

Anyways I'd sign up for it next year, you miss some great trails that are DTC only.

I fully agree with you that his and any DTC trail leader's first priority should be the paid group. There needs to be some professionalism because it is a paid event, especially on public trails. Leaders of these groups should be role models for the rest of us, especially when they are trying to promote a family event. For the record, the guy who got in trouble for talking to us, we where not holding them up. We where coming out of surprise, DTC doesn't run it.
As for getting held up on the trail (Hal Johns) everyone of the participants were great. How was it then ok for trail leaders to basically force their way by us then stop 50yds ahead and hold us up? I get the fact they paid, they paid the BH4wheelers though, not the forest service. When you are using public lands to make money or for any other reason you get to deal with the general public. Also for the record where was the trail leader at when I spotted and/or stacked rocks for 4-5 of the participants, who all said thanks?

I'm not trying to bash anyone, just say what happened. Because of the actions of two different trail leaders, at two different times there is no way I will be going to DTC. It seems I'm not the only one with this opinion, as they only had around 80 rigs this year and it used to be a lottery draw for the 100 slots to get in. I will definitely be going wheeling in the black hills again and more than happy to go with most anybody who doesn't mind a couple kids in my back seat!

Hey I'm not saying he was right, I telling you how he think/operates.

So no need to explain anything, I get all of it. So which was the other trail leader?

And you are misinformed there is no lottery system if we have under 100 vehicles, everyone gets in.

That's fine if you don't want to come to the event, there are trails that you only get to run during that time though, probably the best stuff we have.

Your not the first one with complaints thats for sure. He also wont let trailers be hauled to his trail so no buggys can do haljohns during the DTC. Personally i dont like the guy. He is to cocky expecially since he likes to be called jeepman jones! haha

I understand about the less than 100, everybody gets in. Thats what I was getting at. Didn't have to use the lottery. I have read the rules, as i was saying I WAS going to sign up for next year. Thanks for the others chiming in here.

We are going next year with our buggys and i will tell ya it is a great event. You just have to stay away from him but it is worth it. Its a great club and dont let captain fancy pants give you a bad taste in your mouth about it. I know you would have fun.

I had a great time, the wheeling was some of the best stuff i have ever seen. Running Captain Crunch with Jason Paulie was the highlight of the whole weekend. he is a great guy and that was a great trail. I will be coming back next year with more friends and more rigs.

By the end of the day with Steve Jones on Hal Johns i started to understand him better and i do not dislike the guy i just think that he needs to understand that we are all there to have a good time and being cocky and a know-it-all is not the way to be a Host. I know he has been doing the trails forever and that is what makes him a good spotter and a good trailrider. I enjoyed wheeling with him after i started to understand him and realize that not all trailguides at DTC were the same.

Thanks EGJDM. I was having a weekend. Blew a trailer tire on the way down. A 10 ply, only a year old, got stuck in the easy parts and held up DTC even though we left early, then smoked my rear d line while backing up, rock flipped up and smacked it! We'll be back though!!

Thats bs about that guy getting pissed its public land everyone has a right to us it I dont care if theres some stupid event going on If a fellow wheeler is having problems you should help him. So it might slow the event down a little just imagine if things where flipped you want helped. If some guy started being a a-hole to me its ok if gives my wife crap i'd smash his head in. I guess thats why i stay away from big events. The trails there look sweet but i don't think i'd go during the challenge.
