Western Montana

My family and I are planning on playing in Montana this summer near my sister-in-laws place.

Where are the best places to wheel ATV/UTV and 4X4's in the Flathead Lake/Kalispell/Missoula areas?

North of Missoula about 35-45 minutes. Just off HWY 93.

If your staying in Polson it's a nice little town and there looks like there are trails all over up there. We rented a condo for a week last year and mostly went fishing but were thinkin about goin back up with the trucks next spring or fall.

Polson (and Ravalli-St. Ignatius-Ronan) are all on the Flathead Indian Reservation. You must have a recreation permit from Confederated Salish Kootenai tribes.

The Blacktail/Wild Bill trails are about 30 minutes north of Polson.

That is good to know. How/where do we get the permits and do the permits allow us to ride on the roads/streets in the towns?

Does the Blacktail/Wild Bill trails system require any special permits? Am I going to get in trouble if I bring my WA State licensed toys/rigs to play there?

No problem. If you're legal/registered in your home state, you're legal in MT--this is on FS land. Come play!

You do need to have a licensed/registered rig. You can get an FS ticket if you are not licensed/registered somewhere.

Awesome help. Thanks!

All our toys have WA State license plates or WA State ORV tags so it sounds like we are good to go. I will call the Ronan Power Products place for more details.

Thanks again!

I got my reservation off highway permit at Wal-Mart there in Polson just fyi. They will charge you a bit more being a non-resident. And I believe dont quote me on this, but I think they're about 30 bucks if I recall correctly.
