Powell, Wy 2011 High Desert race ideas?
Looking at maybe re-arranging the track some to allow an ultra4 style race with some more rock/offroad challanges. Here is a picture of the current track layout (red)and one of a proposed idea (blue). It would go over our smalll natural rock section in the north/east corener, go around some terrain on the side of that hill on the east side and also across our current artificial rock course. We would have to re-arraange the artificial course to make it race-able but thats ok.
Thinking of maybe running a 10 lap Ultra4 race in the morning, a 15-20 lap desert race on the normal course afternoon, then a 5 lap night race on the main track at sundown. Any comments, concerns, ideas, etc???? ![]()

First!!! HAHA. I love the idea of a Ultra4 style race. And the night race is a great idea. HMMM i want to do all 3 races haha! I do think in the night race a brake light on the rigs would be very nice.

would have to add a few safety regs for the night race but shouldn't be too hard.

Someone there should be able to round up some boulders for the course. Just make sure the re-bar is all gone!

4400 is about rock and fast--there are no easy lines in the tough rock trails at KOH. Go for it!

The biggest thing about running the race across the cement rock course is the chances of pieces of cement breaking and exposing rebar. If we station a crew there with a torch if that happens they could cut it out between traffic.

I vote no on the artificial rocks (ie concrete) it seems like there is enough natural rock out there.
Concrete is killer on tires and I know some guys didn't want to do the rock crawl last year as concerns about it shredding their tires. If it was my rig I wouldn't run in the concrete. For the rock sections would have to have multiple do-able lines and wide enough to pass someone who gets stuck in a spot. While KOH has some huge rocks and crazy trails I'm not sure most guys want to run a "fun" race on insane obstacles and risk destroying rigs. It becomes not "fun" after that. If that makes any sense. I also vote for running them all at the same time, if possible.

if we mark the race track about 25' wide through the artificial rock course there could be fast lines and room to make passes. the reason the crawl was so hard was everyone was trying to drive through cones strategically placed to make it hard.
I really don't know if stuff would break open, nothing has since we have been playing on that course all summer but it is a chance none the less.

breaking open or not concrete generally is very bad on tires.
More natural the better, and I liked the section towards the south (cut off in the blue route) it was pretty cool and seems like there could be some neat rocks stuff in that area.

Went out and scouted out the track last weekend. Found the routes we'll use for some good natural obstacles and route with various line choices. We also started hauling out some large CAT loader and terra-gator tires to put parallel with the cement rock course so you can pick your line on cement, tires, or mix of both. Here is a revised map of the course we'll run:

Are you bringing the new truck, the blazer, or did you just buy Marty's truck?

we started a message forum at www.powellvalley4wheelers.com to have a centralized location to discuss and plan the HD100 & WW100 events. Feel free to register and we can keep the race info all at one spot instead of 4 different boards
