NY NJ PA conn camping ?
The wife and i are seeking some locations to camp in the tri state area..We would rather have a boondocks type of place vursus the campground crowded places..Anybody have any place that they would recomend that we can get to with our truck.
Its a club cab full sized dodge with a cap. 31" MTR's with open front a rear diffs. We have a 12k winch up front and the obligatory high lift so we dont mind some mud of rocks under 18". Really looking for a light trail that is tenter friendly for the weekend. also any permits or whatever we need to go there will help too.

Go to google maps and enter- Lower Mt Rd, Canton, Tioga, Pennsylvania 17724. Go to the West end of that road. There is a small campground there. You also can get a permit and camp anywhere in your tent in the Tioga forest. Incredible wheeling there along the river. Great secluded camping.

You can find some info on the web about places to go in the Adirondacks, but it's a bit sparse on publicly accessible wheeling if you don't know people with private land.
Here is a post I found on a forum about camping spots http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=4671&page=2 and here is what seemed to be the most useful post, since it wasn't talking about "camp sites" where you have to pay to camp next to someone with a huge RV watching TV all night "my fav sites are all free and primitive and near water. Here are a few rather well known ones: Mountain Pond (off Rt. 30 on the way to Malone) Moss Lake (on Big Moose Road near Old Forge) Boreas River (at the bridge on Northwoods Club Road) Floodwood Road (off Rt. 30 between Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake) Horseshoe Lake (the one near the Bog River access) Boquet River (By the railroad tracks near Elizabethtown) Moose River Plains (South Branch of the Moose has a wild brookie population). There are numerous others I know of on public lands that can be accessed by car but aren't official sites, so you have to stay back 150 from the water - not such an inconvenience, really. I often base out of these for the great fishing that is nearby. I won't be giving these up any time soon, but you can find your own once you start searching for them." I can give you some tips on places to go in the ADK's as well if you want, but it isn't really the "tri-state area" so I might have wasted my effort here I dunno

Ah! Me thinks the campground is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...=UTF8&t=h&z=16 .. and I'd like to second the legality question. The web site for Tioga State Forest lists a lot of activities (hiking, biking, snow mobiles, etc.), but nothing hinting to off-road trails. Last edited by xanders; 07-24-2009 at 12:20 PM. |
