Upstate NY ride - Saturday December 12

Looks like we'll be hitting the private land upstate on Saturday Dec 12 if anyone wants to come up..

Take a look at the "cut a new trail in NY" thread in this forum for some pics/vids

Probably need at least 32s or 33s and a winch. Larger tires and/or lockers recommended

As of now the role call is me in my 83 toyota, a built JK, and a built scrambler. The plan is to wheel hard all day, maybe cut a new trail or two if the weather isn't too shitty

PM me or drop me a line here if you want to come up and play

Well the jeeps backed out and nobody from pirate wanted to come up so my buddy Travis came up in his stock 99 4runner and I brought my yota up

We started breaking a new trail up the spine of a ridge and thought it would be good wheeling but under the snow but it was all nasty mud. We had to cut some down trees and stuff out of the way, and Travis was ahead of me breaking trail. At one point (muddiest part), Travis had gone up until he couldn't make forward progress anymore, then backed down, and there was running water in the bottom of the rut... it was 20*F outside and had been cold for a while

I'm uploading some videos to youtube right now, they don't really show the angle of the hill well but gives you an idea of how friggin muddy it was

This one sort of shows the grade of the hill. In front of the 4runner is where it starts getting muddy and becomes more of an incline. The trail runs right up the spine of a ridge on an old logging trail

My brother and Travis checking out the situation

Here is me getting denied in the yota after Travis tore it up a bit:

And then finally 3rd gear with 4.7:1 low range got me up. Second gear wasn't cutting it for the wheel spin. need.front.locker.

And on the way down I dragged out a couple of logs for some firewood

This is the third trail we've gotten cut up here but it is only about 1/2 done at this point

you need less tire pressure and more speed for that hill. your diffs arnt dragging so thats what i would guess. what pressure you run in the snow?

Speed/wheel speed definitely helped. I made it through that part of the trail after shifting up to 3rd low (I think the first video is in 1st or 2nd gear)

The tires were at 20lbs. There wasn't really enough snow for this to be a "snow wheeling" trip just wheeling with a little snow. I'll continue to mess with tire pressure since you keep pointing it out

Right after I found out the store down the road had a compressor, somebody broke it and they haven't fixed it yet I've gotta drive about 20 miles to get home so I don't really want to do that at 5 or 10psi. I think the stock rims are probably narrow enough to help hold the bead on the tire quite a bit when wheeling though.

Any suggestions for OBA? I haven't looked into it too much, but need to. Would a 12v viair or knockoff compressor be better than engine driven? I don't really want to rob any more power from the 22r and the shitty 12v compressor I have now takes FOREVER to fill up even one of these 34" LTB's

get a york, it wont rob power unless its electric clutch is on. i wish i could fit a york on my engine but no room with the 7M. i keep a shitty 12V compressor in my truck for an emergency. i looked into getting a air ride 12V compressor and the duty cycle would be exceed before you fill one tire. for the same price you could get this, 100% duty cycle and more CFM.
