NW NJ Wheeling?

So, for next week a bunch of friends and I were gonna hit up wharton state forest for a camp out/ wheeling weekend type thing... unfortunately the kids couldnt plan for shit and everything fell through. So I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere closer to home that has good (preferably leagal) areas to wheel? I heard stokes state forest has some areas, but don't know of much more than that, and google hasn't helped me at all... So I was hoping someone around pirate could help me out.
Thanks guys

Stokes has some dirt roads but they are still closed for season. I think sometime in april they will open again. Perfect for stock rigs.

About 5 years ago I was pulling out of the trail, only to be chased down by a fat guy in a white chevy, He was Newark Watershed patrol. He said he was going to give me a 5k fine for trespassing, He said I was a threat to national security because I was wheeling by the reservoir. I didnt get any tickets after all but i dont go in there anymore, It is a shame. I had alot of fun back there

Well it unfortunate but we as law abiding citizen are not allowed too many places because a lot of weekend wheelers have no respect for others and wheel were ever they please , creating a bad name for us all and making the law dislike all of us...

In this instance I don't think trash had much to do with it. All the reservoirs in the tri-state area got locked down after 9/11. Back before 9/11, as long as you had a fishing permit and fishing stuff in your rig the security gaurds could not care less if you were wheeling up tehre. In addition to Green Pond and other wheeling spots, we lost a lot of fishing spots as well due to "concerns of terroristic acts". Like some rag head is going to bring the country to it's knees by blowing up a damn in Sussex county somewhere

Actually your right but only to a degree..........As we are talking specific sites in or near watershed area, yes but the big picture which I see is as mtbxdrew mentioned that in most areas were there is wheeling and ATV/ mc offroading the few have ruined it for the many by leaving garbage, burned out cars doing damage to sensitive areas and generally not giving a shit...this has brought more attention and caused LEO`s to take notice...hence ...closed.

As for as you put it " concerns of terroristic acts" its not blowing up the dam they are worried about....but close... all I can say as OPSEC must prevail
