NJ Inspection

Ok so from what I hear NJ is about to do away with all inspections with the exception of emissions

Do any of you guys know if that means we can run full widths on the road come June 1st? Or is that still gunna be illegal?

I have a set of Waggy 44s waiting to be built because of the legality but if I'm gunna be allowed to run full widths I'll ditch em n build 60's n "do it right"

i like this statment

"You come in with broken windows all over the place, you come in with your side mirrors knocked off," said Steven Seidor, co-owner of Advantage Auto Repair and also of Interstate Car Care in Hackettstown. "You come in with no taillights, no tie rods, no rack, no brakes, nothing. You roll this thing in here on its last wing and a prayer, putting, smoking, dying. As long as the ‘check engine’ light is not on, I’ve got to put a sticker on there."

Maybe I can move to NJ after all. So their just checking emissions then right, any what it will cost? More importantly I assume their still using the sniffer in the tail pipe or do you pass as long as the engine light isn't on? Do you think they would care if you don't have a tailpipe sticking out from the body? Mines under the bed and will be dual exhaust soon, not sure if I could pass a sniffer then or not

Im not sure about the tailpipe but if you do need one all the way to the back I'm not passing. Mine ends at the muffler under my rear bench lol. From the article I guess you need to pass the sniffer test and the engine light has to be off, but thats all.

This is awesome news, but I need more informaiton. Anyone?

My inspection was up in March and I've been considering going to High Rise. What is happening to High Rise on July 1st?

I just need to find one of those disgruntled private inspection stations. Sounds like they'll be glad to do a quick emissions and send me on my way. They can't get in trouble now, right??

I'm also wondering what effects this has on engine swaps. Like if I were to pick up, say, a 90's toy/jeep with a blown motor and swap in a SBC. No idea what the deal is currently with engine swaps, every vehicle I've dealt with has been historical/a factory swap.

Just remember one thing, they are doing away with mechanical inspections, but the vehicle laws will not be changing. I can almost guarantee that you will see more vehicles pulled over now that have visible or audible modifications.

I have to wonder, what's the catch?

Since when does the govt make anything easier on us?

Also scraped the sticker off my tow rig.

From what I've read on other forums, Tilt Test will remain unchanged. So no you won't be able to drive around on fullwidths.

I never paid attention but when the title for my tow rig got transferred from PA, the GVWR on the paperwork said 5,000,

I need to renew the registration anyway so I'll probably get it bumped up just so all the documentation is legit.

the government has to pay i think $18 ever time a car goes through the insp station so if you have a light out or a ripped wiper blade they'll just pass you so they don't have to pay that again when you come back with the fix. so they will save money.if that makes any sence.

I thought you guys had some tough rules on bumper, frame and lighting height... I assume they could still pull you over for those items as well

This just further proves New Jersey's status as the most ridiculous state in the union.
People need to be told their vehicle needs repair.
With the recent cost saving methods drivers are employing.
Like going to fucking wal mart and SAMs club for tires and oil changes.

Do you think the 17 year olds at these places are able to inspect your vehicle for safety issues?
Which is why NJ vehicles needs NJ state inspection.

There are so many vehicles on the road in this congested state. The government needs to focus on safety as well as huggin trees.
