cow mt covered in trash
[Rant on]
So I went to Cow yesterday to try a couple things with the new buggy and the place was FUCKING THRASHED!!! Red mountain looked liked the dumps, fucking beer cans, dixie cups and general trash everywhere ![]() It was complete bull shit, there was trash around the crawling area to, a lot of it ![]() Anyone know who decided that Red Mountain camp was their personal dump site? I hope that the BLM can use those new cameras to get a couple plate #'s from whoever the dip shits were that did this ![]() [Rank off, but still pissed] and yes I fail at getting pics, but it was by far the worst I have ever seen, in some camps it was literally 1-2 cans/bits of trash per square foot

If I had to guess, I'd say the majority of the problem would be teenagers from Ukiah that come up to Cow to party. Until there is some kind of continuous enforcement, the problem is going to persist. Cleaning up the area just seems to make the problem worse. Until a few of these folks are made examples out of (I'm thinking law enforcement)... not much of anything is going to make it better. So I go there a couple times a year, and I fill up a bag of trash while I'm wheeling, try to set a good example, but know I'm not making any kind of difference. If I think too much about it, I get all pissed off like the OP, and I didn't cause it, so I do what I can when I can.

It was by far the worst I have ever seen, and I've been going up there for 15 years.
We picked up a lot from the crawling trails but didnt have any trash bags as it was only a 2 hour trip and all we brought was a couple bottles of water that get stashed in the tool box. I was up there mid-week right before the last big rain (2-3 weeks ago or so) and the camp ground and crawling area were spotless, at the time I figured maybe the signs saying there was video cameras was working and nobody wanted a ticket.....

Pick up the trash when you see if you can, correct people when you see them littering, organize larger scale clean ups if possible. It's the world we live in, clean up after others and clean up after yourself and don't bitch about it. If you truly want things to get better make them better. The only pictures you should have of this kinda thing is pictures of full trash bags of trash you picked up.
I'm not trying to call anyone out and I hate seeing trash as much as everyone else, but I also hate seeing simple problems get blown out of proportion. |

As stated above ^^
We did not have any trash bags as we were only up there for a quick 2 hr trip, we picked up what we could off the trail. The camp was empty so there was no one to ask WTF to. If you read the first post you would have seen the reason I posted this was to find out if anyone knew who it was, so that the education could begin....

Like I said not trying to call anyone out, I read that you didn't have trash bags and that's why I wrote "if you can" I understand that it's not always possible to pick up trash especially for one or two people in the volumes you describe.
It would be much more effective to try to get more people that hate litter to pick it up instead of going on witch hunts. Yes you're cleaning up after other people and in a perfect world you shouldn't have too unfortunately that's not the world we live in. The best form of education is having people out there see you doing more than your part. Finding one person probably isn't going to change the problem, but hey if you find this asshole and educate him and we have no more trash on our trails all the more power to you. Thank You for picking up the trash that you could, if more people did that this wouldn't be a problem. |

I will make sure the Mendocino 4x4 club hears about this and gets another cleanup scheduled. Sucks that the club always has to clean up other peoples mess.
![]() If anyone wants to donate to the cause, please find the donate button on the Mendocino 4x4 club website. http://mendocino4x4.com/ Add a note that your donating for the cleanup. |

Its not just teenagers from ukiah. It's wheelers too. All the punk ass kids who go up and drive in spots there not supposed to and think they can do anything. Some "friends" on my Facebook (people I don't even really know) were just posting pics of rolling their Chevy with no roll cage while whippIng donuts, and everyone cheering them on. Wish there was some way to straighten them out without having to have more rules...

Yes, true, but they represent the wheeling community whether we like it or not. The truck was built, just no cage...cause lift kits tires bumpers etc look way cooler then a cage right
