Muddin in the mountains will get the trails/areas closed. The Sierra National Forest recently did a Travel Management plan that closed roads/trails that are not on a durable surface and will cause erosion. Or roads that get muddy have seasonal closures to keep vehicles from doing damage when it's wet. So I'm thinking if you're muddin in the mountains,you're in the wrong.

If you want mud, go down the hill to the valley and find a farmer that will let you mess up his land. Dont go "mudding" in any area that looks like a forest. Trails are being threatened with closure all the time because of erosion.
Hollister hills has a mud pit. You can make as big of a mess as you want and no one will complain.

Wow, the guy was just looking for some cool people to go wheeling with and you guys go all political action kommittee on him. people wont listen when you beat them over the head with your agendas. You really want this guy to learn responsible land use get off your fat asses and go wheeling with him. We teach and learn by example, not ridicule.

Hites cove road is probably 50% granite.
more like rock running not crawling though! Atleast coming back out

The road/trail behind the rangers station will take you to Oakhurst

In all honesty there really is nowhere to go 'muddin' in the Sierras. There is a mud pit at Hollister and some stuff like that at Carnege in the Sac area but that's about it. Unless you have access to private land, forget it.
