Sacramento
I am considering moving to Sacramento to go to Wyotech, which is in west Sacramento. I wanted to get your guys input on the area. Any input would help and be appreciated. From what I heard so far. The city is nice, The weather is hot in the summer, cold rainy in the winter. And the cost of living is prety high.
Whats the cost of living? (appartments) Whats the price on diesel? Any problems with diesel truck in Cali? Anything else about the city? Any local shops? Also anyone know of anywhere to store trailer/rig. I have been staring to read the threads in here. I am looking forward to some west coast wheeling. I see that rubicon/fordyce are the bigger spots around. Any others. |

Sac's a shithole (worked there for many years)
expensive... over populated... typical California I guess? but yeah like Noodles said, there are a few perks.. good places to eat, beer... umm... yea thats about it.

I'm a "bay area" guy but have lived in Sac on and off for 20+ years. Sac is the best "valley city". Has good junk yards and shops. Half way between the hills and bay. Not "real" expensive for Calif. Not as hot (20-30 100+ days) or foggy (low and thick) as most of the valley because of a little breeze through the straights. No "smog" on diesels but LA is talking about banning them altogether. Lots of good wheeling up the hill.

if you go to wyotech you can't drive your diesel anymore. I think the application requires that you have an 87 camaro w/ a v6 and iroc badging over the primer... you must call it a school project...however the only things that project are the neon undercarriage lights.
![]() oh and you HAVE to do one legger burnouts out of campus and around each corner that follows. Ever seen the show Weeds? It's kinda like that but instead of coffee and land rovers, it's irocs and rockstars ![]() ---- okay and now for my actual opinion. Good school... right down the street from Cummins! (good place to get employed). IKEA is right across the street if you want to battle the asians for the best deal on furniture Sacramento may "suck" but it's the gateway to whatever. fordyce, rubicon, lake tahoe, san francisco, napa..... it's very centralized depending on what you're into. I like it because I can get business from all these places and when it's time to go wheelin I just pick a freeway and drive for an hour.Diesel trucks are fine. I pay 2.70 or less for fuel right now... you just need to shop online and work it into your travels to get the best deal. Living is expensive but if you're savy or likeable, people always like help w/ their mortgage. you can probably get a room w/ someone on the board and pay 400 or so for it. You can rent a whole house in sacramento for as little as 1000. granted it will be old... crappy and OLD... but it's a place to live. apartments around here are either new and $$$$$$$$$ or old and wicked ___________ what's the background color of this page? ![]() so from where you're at to here is it a good move? I've lived in MA, TN, here, and up north a bit. The only other places I'd consider living, AZ, southern CA, FL. I like it here most of the time.

I'm currently a student at Wyotech in West Sac. I commute from EDH to the campus which takes me about 35-40 minutes every morning. Going home at the end of the day, however, is another story. Diesel fuel at the nearby filling stations is at $3.09/gal when I checked this morning. Be prepared to be the only diesel enthausiast in your class, though. Thats the current situation I'm in. Its mostly import car enthausiasts and old school rat rod guys who go here with a few 'wheelin enthausiasts sprinkled in between. If you need some help getting a place to stay while you're up here, PM me and I'll get you in contact with some places I know that aren't too far away from campus that are usually populated with Wyotech students.

Actual houses can be found for the price of an appartment. We did some shopping around and found this house for rent, complete with garage, for 650/month....only 10 a month more than we were paying for a 1 bd appartment. Granted, it's an old and SMALL house, but shop around and you'll find something. This place will be open for rent in August timeframe....
