I have a tube clip on my samurai with 37's. My tires stick out a little and I got pulled over and told I need front mud flaps. I am in Chico CA. This wasn't even CHP, it was the local P.D

I've never been pulled over in my cruiser and the tires sure aren't very covered. I drive it around town all the time.

I never had a problem with my trail rig w/ boggers outside the flairs, its my DD that gets stopped all the time for flair and mudflaps though...from my experience cops dont really mess with rigs that look like they arent just for the street and actully get used...

I hear about my friends getting pulled over in their trucks for no mud flaps, turn signals being out etc. But I drive around sherrif, chp and local pd and no one says anything about the fact that i have 6 uncovered hella 4000's, one headlight and no front turn signals. Plus i have no muffler and it's loud as hell. Don't really get it, but i'm glad either way.

Just install front and rear removable mud flaps, according to VC26700 all you need is mud flaps covering an "acceptable" amount of your tire, so try for full width of your tire, and 75-80% of the length of your tire. Conveyor belts make good mud flaps, or just buy two Bigrig mud flaps and cut them in half.

a cop told me it was 3/4 of the tire needs to be covered. i had a few fix it tickets for no mud flaps/ fenders. i just taped a piece of cardboard for front flaps and made some removeable ones for the rear, and they signed it off

If Rosetti (sp?) is around and he wants to be a dick as he usually is he will pull you over and give you a ticket. He pulled me over for throwing out sunflower seeds one time and I was going in the opposite direction. He looked over my truck and couldn't find anything wrong so he had to let me go. He writes tickets all the time. Just stay away from the high school areas.

He's an a$$, I know a person that got stopped by him for mudflaps on a stock tahoe w/dealer plates still on it. The judge told him to get a life.

VC26700 states: 26700. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), a passenger vehicle, other than a motorcycle, and every bus, motortruck or truck tractor, and every firetruck, fire engine or other fire apparatus, whether publicly or privately owned, shall be equipped with an adequate windshield.
(b) Subdivision (a) does not apply to any vehicle issued identification plates pursuant to Section 5004 which was not required to be equipped with a windshield at the time it was first sold or registered under the laws of this state, another state, or foreign jurisdiction.

Amended Ch. 222, Stats. 1983. Effective January 1, 1984.

i dont see anywhere in there about flaps...

sounds like this one...

Fenders and Mudguards
27600. No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread. This section does not apply to those vehicles exempt from registration, trailers and semitrailers having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds, or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.

Amended Ch. 215, Stats. 1970. Effective November 23, 1970.

good to know...

I am sure Rosetti will pull me over if he sees me. the only thing i have ever heard about him was bad. i got a ticket from him 11 years ago... not too cool. i avoid him when i see him. he is nothing but trouble. the city should put him behind a desk. they will never do that though because he generates too much revenue for the city.

the original reason i ask about this is because i want to be able to drive my junk to the trail. whether it be local or up in the sierras. nothing long haul but a 15 minute drive up the hill...
