Greenhorn Today!! *Dialup Warning*

Badass day, had a couple more rigs with us today. It was cool meeting some of you today, i think i only met 2 of you. Didn't see anyone else that said they were going to be there.
Last night a local named Brandon, was killed down at greenhorn when his rig went off the cliff and nosed dived into the ground. RIP Brandon
Heres a lot of pictures, i have over 300 pictures cause my GF was taking pics of everything.

We had lunch at as far as we could go on this one trail down a creek, if your rigs breaks down and you can't get it out before night fall it'll be burned or shot up like the blazer on the right in this picture.

Two people lost their lives after their vehicles plunged over embankments in separate area accidents over the weekend.

Brandon M. Alcala, 19, of Grass Valley, was four-wheeling in his 1982 Toyota pickup
truck on a bluff in the Greenhorn Creek area at 9:10 p.m. Saturday night when his accident occurred.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Alcala failed to see a part of the bluff that had eroded away and his right front wheel went over it, causing the truck to plunge. The truck landed on its roof about 15 feet below.

Alcala was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected out the driver’s window of the truck and crushed upon impact. His passenger, Chelsie Cooley, 19, of Grass Valley, was not injured.

Thats horrible. RIP.

I don't know how to say this without sounding kind of like an ass, but this is just one more tragic example of why you should always, always wear a seatbelt.

Heres a little more info

Brandon M. Alcala, 19, of Grass Valley, was four-wheeling in his 1982 Toyota pickup truck on a bluff in the Greenhorn Creek area at 9:10 p.m. Saturday night when his accident occurred.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Alcala failed to see that a part of the bluff had eroded away and his right front wheel went over it, causing the truck to plunge. The truck landed on its roof about 15 feet below.

Alcala was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the driver's window and crushed upon impact, according to the CHP accident report. His passenger, Chelsie Cooley, 19, of Grass Valley, was not injured and was also not wearing a seat belt, according to CHP Officer Dina Hernandez of the Grass Valley office.

"She was very lucky" to not be hurt, Hernandez said. "If he had not been ejected, he probably would have survived. You can be killed at a 15 mph impact; always belt up."

Anyone who goes four-wheeling should always belt up, preferably with a harness-type seat belt, according to Jack Roudy of Colfax, spokesman for the area's Sierra Treasure Hunters 4-wheelers club and a member of the California Association of four-wheel drive clubs. "Roll bars are terribly important, too," Roudy said.

"You do have rollovers, but they are rare," Roudy said. With seat belts and roll bars installed, "we've had people roll 10 times and walk away."

Those who four-wheel should also "Use existing trails, and remember, these aren't races," Roudy said.

According to Virginia Toney of Nevada County, whose son was at the accident scene, Alcala was turning around and was not climbing or challenging anyone at the time of his accident.

"There's a lot of teenagers in shock," Toney said. "In their minds, it was a terrifying thing."

Definitely sucks for the guy and his family, but people like that give this hobby a bad name. There is no excuse to not wear a seat belt. A cage and a harness are also an excellent idea, but atleast use the stock belts.

he was a local kid that my tire guys all knew, i guess he was out of the truck and it started to roll and he tried to jump back into the truck (that's why he did'nt have his seatbelt on) and it crushed him, it's a sad story for sure-

The local paper had an article but it was way off. he was turning around the campfire on the cliffsides one tire went off and he put it into reverse and made the backend slide over more and it went over. He was not hanging out Nor was he ejected from the vehicle. he didnt have a seat belt on neither did the girl who was with him. He was tossed around the cab and suffered major head trauma causing his brain to swell. The girl walked away with minor if any injurys. I Was at His memorial a couple of days ago and it was one of the saddest things ive ever been to. There were a lot of people there from friends to people who knew of him. All there to show there support. My Friends Made a Concrete memorial at Greenhorn to show our respect for brandon. R.I.P Brandon Alcala

PS. Killer, if its been that long since youve been there you should come down. you would be surprised to see how much it has changed. Every year the rains wash it out more and more

greenhorn..?

Message to all:

I'm going to go play at Greenhorn tomorrow.. look for the white Jeep if you can make it. I just accidentally broke my CB antenna mount so you'll have to locate your Jeep in front of me, IF you can make it.

Everyone is welcome.. of course.

Bruce.
ps. I know it's short notice, but no biggie if nobody shows.. I'm gonna have fun.

Bruce
