No legal trails that I know of. What you see is most likely private property. Hollister Hills is only an hour away. Illegal wheeling is manna for the evil tree huggers.

I'm from there, there are a few good trails, but nothing really worth the risk of going to jail / getting shot. My friend got a misdemeanor a few years back for parking behind a gate just behind Lexington. Add in all the new yuppies in the mountains who demanded Sheriff patrols up there, you have a recipe for a criminal record.
Your best bet is to go to Hollister or start making friends with people in the mtns.

there were a few spots a couple years back but no more. I have done enough banditoing up there to know its not worth it. Although I could give you some directions to jeff's house to do some burnouts in his driveway.

We own a few hundred acres there. Most of it is private land or land you should stay far away from unless you want shot. Even if a "trail" doesn't have a gate, don't assume it's okay to go down/continue to go down it. Besides the land owners and LEOs, there are plenty of "others" up there you don't want to cross.
For your own safety, STAY AWAY!! |

Thanks Warren. I'm pretty sure my dad would respond negatively to that.

If you own a small trailer and a chainsaw you can make friends up there.
I had a few that let me wheel on their land, but most of it is pretty tame.

Start wandering around on some of those ungated little roads and you might stumble on to someones meth lab. Then you will have a whole bunch of new problems

I would have to agree with 88flexj. There are a lot of bad mf's up there. One thing you dont want is to come across a weed field or a meth lab. The mountain people dont take kindly to strangers(cue the deliverance music). I have lived in Campbell, CA all my life and have been driving around in the SC Mountains since I was 16. There are many really sweet wheeling spots, but it has taken my friends and I years to find them. They are, as one of the guys on here said, a closely guarded secret. But If you can provide a service to some of the residents, they might let you use the land. There isn't really anything too crazy up there, but it is great land for practice. The very top of the hills get snow sometimes and it gets nice and muddy in the winter. If you are feeling extra crazy and dont mind trespassing charges, there is a really sweet quarry in the hills around Lexington Res. Happy Wheeling.

Happened to me. Came across a huge field of weed. Thankfully the guys were really cool and politely asked us to turn around. 2 months later they get caught by the police. Other than that the only place to wheel is on my friends 385 acres in Boulder Creek.

i used to live in boulder creek, and out in the cuts the people you really need to look out for are the ex-Army Rangers and Vietnam vets. I was pretty young when I lived up there but i was old enought to remeber how crazy those fuckers are when you come across their lot.

Trails
I have wheeled up here for 20+ years, although most is pretty tame. There are some cool trails that take you to the ocean. There are a few obstacle and rock gardens set up by landowners
. Otherwise you have to find a private owner, or go through gates ( not recommended ). Your best bet is to build up and go play in Hollister (tank trap) or take few days and hit the con. My experience is that most (not all) trucks up here are for showing their tires or to tall and wide to wheel on these narrow trails (fear of scratching paint) . Maybe FELTONKID will invite us all for a BBQ, Keg, and jamboree on that 365 acres .

I live in SC and me and a buddy were wheelin up on there one night like I have a hundred times before and we found a new trail and we were charging down it and we came across a little shack needless to say it was pretty sketchy and we got outta there. but later that night I got semi-stuck and some guy in a rickety old truck straight out of wrong turn or deliverance blocked my escape and was freaking out. He had a spotlight right in my eyes so I couldn't see him and I stayed in my truck, I thought he was guna start shooting but I talked him down and he told me to leave and not come back, meanwhile my friend took off and was halfway down the mountain, Bastard. I dont recommend exploring up there, I dont anymore. but if you must find a local whos willing to spill his guts and tell you where because there are fun spots up there that are 'relatively' safe. There was a pot bust up there one ridge over from my favorite spot with 300+ plants. Just dont do it its not worth it.
