Trails near Clear Lake
Looking for advice of some trails we can run this coming weekend near Clear Lake. Will be at the lake for a concert on Sat. night. Hoping to run for couple hours on Sat and again on Sun AM before heading for home.
Both rigs are DD with 4.11' a and lockers, so something more than a dirt road would be nice. Any good remote lakes for shore fishing? Thanks in advance!! |

South Cow Mountain 04/22/07
I went up there again this weekend instead of going to Hollister Hills. It seems like the folks who go up there are lazy slobs. There are trash cans all over the place and people still throw their crap in the fire rings and adjoining areas.
It also seems to be the after hours hangout. People rolling in around 1-3 am drunk as hell though it was funny laughing at them puking their guts out in the morning. I am not sure how they rate the trails up there but I hiked up a few of them. I went up part of trail 1 which said it was jeep rated and it was hard for me to believe. It was barely more than single track wide and my head kept hitting branches walking it. |

go to red mountain campground at cow.the trail behind the grounds(south) is where the rock garden and stairs are.off to your right(west) you can go down into the canyon for a mini sluice box and the water fall.

cows where its at in drove my old Taco through every trail i could find out there and never had to much trouble, get a map at the stageing area or try to go to a ranger station and get 1 cause mosta the time the maps are mia, but a lifted taco with mtr and a rear locker made it plenty easy, (was my dd tell i sold it) took my sami out once and it did alright as well then i figured out that my t case has the 2 low mod and after that i put it in 4wd and it did great. stay at buck horn campground if u camp out there a little more private, ive experianced the late night fly bys.
