Catalytic Converter Stolen in Davis
You guys probably know this already, but thieves (meth heads) are targeting Toyota trucks in the Sacramento region due to the high platinum. On Sunday I went to startup my truck and it sounded really loud, I thought my engine had blown up or something similar. I “thought” I would be safe since I live in Davis on quiet residential street close to campus. Just a heads up for everyone out there, nowhere is safe!
The good news is that when I filed a police report the cop said that they caught some guys last night in West Sac in a stolen car with a trunk full of cats. Hopefully one of them is mine. Pic: ![]() PS…anyone know of a good muffler shop in Davis? |

Common in the east bay also - we cought a couple of idiots doing it a couple of months ago. We had video from a surveillance camera in a busy Home Depot parking lot at 6 in the evening. Looked like a couple of guys working on their truck and they were done in about a minute.

Assembly Bill 844 would require recycling centers to: • Keep a physical description or photo of the seller. • Record weight and size of material. • Not pay metal and alloy sellers until 10 days have passed. • Keep metal for 15 days, unless they have video or photos of both the metal and the seller and keep them for two years. • Maintain written records of scrap metal purchases from other dealers. |

We had to chase off some guy trying to steal a co-workers Cat from under his '86 SR5. The truck was parked off of Elvas Avenue, near 65th street. In broad daylight. Our shop has a fence that borders the street, and a co-worker saw a blue van pull up... 2 guys jumped out, each with cordless sawzalls and started away at our buddies Yota.
We scared the guys off before they could get the cat, but in less than a minute they had almost completely cut the cat from the truck. I dont think they were having smog issues, i think they wanted to sell it as scrap. Catalytic converters do get a good return when recycled, and Toyota's are a good target since they sit pretty high off the ground. His SR5 is bone stock, and there was plenty of room under it for 2 guys to get under there and operate their sawzalls without any difficulty. Nobody wants to lay under a honda. -Brian
