Oroville people...

So tell me about your town. I have been working there for the past 4 months and its time to move. I here a lot of shit talking about Oroville from the people I work with that live there. But from what I have seen its not any worse or better than where I am now.

So whats good? Whats bad? Good places to eat, drink, hang out? Areas to stay out of? Things to do? You know the drill.... I dont have kids, so good schools dont matter.

I am trying to cut my drive time down to almost nothing so Chico is out. I grew up in atown of 100 people so Paradice would be fine, but its to far also.

Honestly Oroville seems to have done a lot in the last couple of years to enhance it's image, at least cosmetically. They've built some new facilities and cleaned up a few things. Whether it really changed the class of people that live there I can't say since I don't live there. I still wouldn't move/ live there.

Paradise is quite a bit larger than 100 people. I think there's 40k+ in the ridge area and the town is pretty much self-sufficient (several grocery stores, banks, video stores, hardware stores, shops, etc) A lot of our friends are moving to Durham (where I grew up) and it's actually gotten worse in that regard since I lived there and the population is probably 3-4 times greater.

It seems to be a good mix of people here. I would love to live in a smaller area like Paradice. But the house I am looking at renting is 1.7 miles away from work. This move is mostly $$$ motivated. I will be saving $200+ a month in fuel, wear and tear on my truck, etc. Plus saving the 5-8 hours a week I waste driving is no fun.

MC Oroville moved OUT of Oroville.

Therefore the fun level went down and the "respectable people" level increased.

I commuted from oroville to lincoln everyday for 4 years before I finally got a clue and moved to olivehurst. wife works in live oak And I work in lincoln so we moved in the middle.

ps olivehurst sucks but my neighbors are all white, I mean all right.

the only thing that oroville has thats any good is the lake, and lately thats been more like a pond

It makes no nevermind to me what color my neighbors are so that's all good. A lady I work with has a boat, so the lake maybe a option this summer.

2-3 miles up Oro-Quincy Hwy from where it runs into (I think) Oro Dam Blvd.

Oroville is where the county Jail is and the welfare office is. People stay close by....

I've worked in Oroville for years. My point of view is it truley is as bad as everyone says it is.Butthole of Butte County.

lived in chico for 2 years and drove down to oroville quite a bit to disc golf and mountain bike near the damn .... i think its reputation of being a "meth lab with a mayor" is exagerrated and if i could find a decent job in the area i would happily move back

Edit: just noticed the post above me .... i hate going to the oroville jail, all my friends call me when they get arrested for being drunk in public, then the one time i get arrested and can cash in a favor, i get arrested early enough on ceazer chavez day to end up in chico haha

when you find a place you like go back at 10 pm and look again. My Dd is the manager at Big"o" tires if you need anything make sure you mention my name it won't help a ton but it will save a couple bucks. I lived up there a couple of years and hated every fn inch of that town. You can not get anything there you always have to go to Chico or Sac to get shit and if they do have it then you will pay way to much. that is the price you pay for living in a shit town. Actually it won't be much diffrenent than were you are now
