WA Comp Cut?

Im wondering how much trouble you guys with comp cut rigs have with the law as far as driving it around town now an then? Im thinkin about takin the rear corners of my Jeep Wrangler YJ under the plasma to get the extra clearance i want but if i cant drive it down the street than im not going to... Of course if i take this route I am plannin on runnin mudflaps, im just wantin to see if any of yoll are gettin away with it

BTW the jeep is definetly not a daily driver/comuter or whatever but in the summer time it'd be nice to show it off without the boys in blue ruining things...

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

I have heard that some of the cops around here are real dicks and will cite you if your tires stick too far out of the fenders, so doing away with the fenders will probably get you cited as well.

Big removable mudflaps and not driving in the rain would be your best bet.

I Think it just varries where you are at and who you are dealing with. Where I used to live I used to drive my rig through town to trails and just aound town to kinda show it off and the cops would just wave. Then recently I moved 10 miles away to a different town and dont even dare let it out of my driveway.

Well I don't have a comp cut (yet), but my tires stick out about 10" past my fender flares and using big removable mud flaps works fine for me. Here is a pic that might help. I just make sure my mudflap is big enough to cover my whole tire... and I don't drive it on the street in the rain.

really depends on where you live up here. I know in my town the cops are more interested in the ricer's than the 4x4's.

x2 Depends on your town. I live in Issaquah and it's pretty much yuppieville and I dont have to many problems, unless I go south towards kent/auburn/puyallup no good.

Flaps like the guys have pictured will go a long way to making it *look* like your trying to obey the law. Tires sticking out technically need to be covered over the top (flares) up to 1" or so, but it seems that if you have flaps, they over look the flares more often than not.

Having the rig clean, decently strait (not a rolling POS), drive courteously and don't be an ass and odds are good you'll be fine.

Like I said, make it "look" like your trying to conform, and you'll be much better off that the guys running around covered with mud or a beat to shit Toyota

Hell, I ran around Puyalup and Tacoma for two years in a cherokee on 33's and no flaps and no one looked at me twice. I pull off I-90 in Sprague and get pulled over for no flaps in 30 yards. One guy I know in Spokane got a ticket for no flaps on a cherokee on each tire (you know who you are). Seems like they don't care on the coast, unless they're just board as shit.

There's an interesting thread regarding legality and what you CAN get hit for over on NWW. There's actually a LEO from the forest service that is answering questions re: legality of rigs, etc.

I'm not comp cut but I stick our 6" past my bushwhacker flares.I've only 1gotten a ticket in the 4 yrs of driving the Jeep, and I've been in front of,in back of and beside cops many times. The reason I got the one ticket is because I got caught out in Tillamook on 101 in the rain after a run.I was caked with mud and throwing 60' roosters from each tire.A sheriff passed me in the oncoming lane and freaked I never seen them turn around so fast.

Here is the deal.you can't have any stick-out. and you need the back of the tires covered down to 25".You might hear a bunch of different numbers from state to state. It's only a "fix-it" ticket but I wanted a solution so I don't get hemorrhoids.

Here is the pictures I sent in to get the ticket removed.

These are removable fenders that meet the criteria and I should be able to eliminate the stock fenders and flares all together.I don't have them completed for both sides yet and I'm going to spring load the mounts and try running them on the trail once the fenders are comped.the fronts will mount on the high steer arms the backs will mount to a tab on the axle tube.

Definately depends on where you are... Spokane I drive around with no problems what so ever. In fact, cops typically wave or find me stopped and ask questions about my rig. Kennewick is completely different when officer Ball is on duty though!

On Nov. 15th I loaded up my camp trailer behind my rig and set off for CA. Mr Ball immediately popped me. His first words were 'you calling your buddies to come and get it or am I towing it'. In amazement, I asked what for. His comment was 'where do I start - no mudflaps, tires stick out too far, bumpers not long enough and are too far off the ground, etc...etc...etc..' and ended with ' you got a phone? I suggest you start using it because you have 10 minutes.'

So frantically I called a buddy that used to live in Kennewick and asked him WTF to do and if he could help. First thing out of his mouth was is it officer Ball. I said I didn't know as he didn't introduce himself and had a coat on covering his name tag. He asked where I was and I told him I just went over the bridge. He said it's officer Ball. I'll make some phone calls.

Then Mr Ball started having a ball with my rig and calling other officers to come look at it and take pictures while he measured and noted all of the offenses. Then he came back over and asked if I had anyone coming. I told him that a buddy would be there in about 45 minutes.

Mr Ball was sure this was a new build because he'd never seen it before and I should know better than to even attempt to drive it on the highway. I told him it had 100k miles on it and he argued not like this it didn't. I said I'm from UT and Spokane and yes, like this.

At the end he must of calmed down or something because he told me his partner was going the other direction and he was going home and he couldn't force me to wait for my buddy to show....

But remember that even "fix-it" tickets can come back to haunt you if your not careful.

Oh, I forgot to mention that in the state of WA, it's not a fix a ticket for mud flaps... It's $124 and if you go in and pay it they might drop it.

mudflaps are key in WA. i already have a set of flaps to put on my truck for when i get my bigger tires. its an easy thing to add to a 4x4 but a costly one to forget
