Registering Vehicle
Ok, so I bought my '71 FJ on Sunday. Today I went into the D.O.L. to register it. The seller and I put $2,500 as the sale price. Yes I paid a little more, but not much. It isn't even running.
Anyway, the DOL computer shows no value range for it. Since it is considered a "Classic" they looked up the value on NADA. $7,500 acording to them. So now they want to tax me on that amount. I have only seen one other FJ in the Seattle area that was asking a price that high since I started looking a few months ago. Most are $2,500 to $4,500. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this? Any publications I can show them? I printed all the current Craigs List ads. I am supposed to go to the Revenue Department to plead my case. I am trying the same thing. I printed out all the ads on Craigs List and elsewhere and I will take photos of mine, including the tranny and t-case sitting on the floor, etc...
Wish me luck. |

Go to a different DOL and/or a different teller.
And keep going till you get what you want. Tell this its a non-runner project rig, thats always worked for me, but then the DOL I got to is pretty good.

dont know why i didnt suggest that idea. i had to do that when i bought my truck. i had to register it to a different address/county (to avoid emissions)than my DL and they wouldnt do it at the first DOL i went to, but the teller told me which one to go to and that they would do it no problem.
