Hopefully it won't make it out of committee like 80% of the bills proposed each session. What a waste of time and money.

BUT - still send your rep. a note saying how you think it is a stupid idea!

This asinine bill was originally proposed in 2001 and failed then. Send an email and make it fail again!

Just sent my e-mail!

This is a ridiculous bill, and only benefits the mainstream car manufacturers. At some point, this will even hurt those manufacturers as well. I work for a Chrysler dealership for the last couple of years, and have worked at a GM dealership for eight years before this. Parts department revenues do count on the sales of aftermarket parts from major to minor. To limit these products only to what the manufacturer determines should be on a specific vehicle platform would decrease the dealer’s revenue, as well as, shut down a lot of the manufacturers and distributing channels involved in such products. Oregon is already one of the few states with the highest unemployment percentages, and one of the few states that bounces back from a recession. Considering we are still in a recession, we should not look at ways to increase the amount of unemployed, and decrease the amount of revenue for local companies.

In the long run, this can actually hurt the larger manufacturers who depend on aftermarket manufacturers to research and develop these products for the “factory” accessories. If you look at the Jeep Wrangler lift kits offered by Chrysler as a MOPAR accessory, it is actually developed and manufactured by Skyjacker. The same goes for the larger axle assemblies, which are manufactured by Dynatrax. GM and other manufacturers look to aftermarket companies like Thule and Yakima for their roof mounting accessories.

Oregonians have prided themselves on enjoying the fruits of their state by seizing the weekend; be it kayaking, hiking, skiing, off-roading, etc. This has given a great home to numerous aftermarket companies that have local and international presence and some vendors, such as: Warn industries, Warrior products, Autoloc Inc, PIAA, Bushwacker, Cartoys, Performance warehouse, Competition Specialties, Napa, Baxters, Carquest, to name a few. To limit the vehicles that allow us to do such things would not only hurt our community financially, but would rob us of what makes us Oregonians, outdoors people. I hope you take these comments into consideration when reviewing the bill, and hope that it gives you a perspective that shows you how negative of an impact it will have on our state.

Jacob Speas

A little update that I got today.

Dear Mr. Schoenfelder,

Thank you for writing and sharing you concerns about House Bill 3147, we received both of your emails. I appreciate hearing your perspective.

HB 3147 has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development, of which I am co-chair. With our busy schedule this session, I do not anticipate that we will have time to hear this bill or move it out of committee to the floor for a vote. If the bill does receive a hearing, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. If you would like to follow its progress just in case, you can do so here: HB 3147.

Please feel free to keep in touch.

Best,
Tobias

But it means the system works (I guess). Someone wanted a crazy law passed, it doesn't pass.

If you wanted to pass a law - YOU could propose a bill - bang on enough desks in Salem to get it on the committee docket - where it would surely die if it were indeed crazy. People would bitch about your idea and say it was a waste of time - but that is democracy. Just be sure and speak up and/or vote every chance you get so the 'crazies' don't appear to have the majority.

Thumbs up

Originally from Oregon, now living in Washington, but hoping to get back soon. Anyways...all I have to say is that I have dealt with a lot of this type of legislation, but in regards to Commercial Fishing. What I have learned is that you have to speak up! Don't think that just because you, your family and your friends think it is crazy, that someone in government doesn't think it is crazy. The fight gets old after a while, but you have to speak your mind or others will speak for you (and it probably won't be what you desire)!

Keep abreast of your legislative sessions, know how the legislature works, know who your legislators are, write them and tell others to write them!

Good job guys, keeping everyone informed!

I just got this, looks like were safe.

Ben,

Thank you for your email. Rep. Sheehan is opposed to HB 3147. At this time while the bill has been referred to the House Transportation committee it has not been granted a public hearing. This late in the legislative session it is unlikely that it will receive a hearing; however, that is not a guarantee.

Rest assured that if it does come for a vote, Rep. Sheehan will be a NO.

Respectfully,

Jon Kloor

Legislative Director

Rep. Patrick Sheehan

and this one

Dear Mr. _________

Thank you for writing and sharing you concerns about House Bill 3147. I appreciate hearing your perspective.

HB 3147 has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Economic Development, of which I am co-chair. The deadline for scheduling committee work sessions for bills recently passed. You will be happy to know that with our busy schedule, we did not schedule any hearings for HB 3147. This means this bill is effectively dead and will not make it to the House floor for a vote this session.

Please feel free to keep in touch.

Best,

Tobias

PS: I have taken the liberty of adding you to our e-mail newsletter subscription list. The newsletter is sent out approximately every two weeks during the legislative session and less frequently the rest of the year. If you would prefer to opt out, please let me know.

Finally got a reply:
