I've been dying to get out and use my new (to me) buggy, so I put together a little road trip and hit some of the better parks close (yeah, close is relative) to where I'm living for now (Lincoln, NE). 1050 mile driving round trip - a pretty long haul, but very much worth it.

Saturday (Little Sahara Dunes):

After going to Silver Lake in Michigan dozens of times, I couldn't believe the lack of people here. There was maybe 100 vehicles on the dunes. Campground wasn't full, plenty of places to park, no line to get in.... unreal. Dunes were VERY smooth, but also very abrupt at the top and bottom. There was very little "roll" to the hills, so you really had to be careful. We made it 6 hours before the heat / humidity was all we could take.

Sunday (Disney, Oklahoma):

Nice park. Lots of area. Lots of trails through the woods. Too bad there weren't a few more labels and trail markers. A little mud, but not too bad. The campground adjacent to the trails was full, but the trails were not crowded at all. Again, we made it 6 hours before the heat / humidity was all we could take.

Monday (Kansas Rocks):

Nice little park out in the middle of nowhere. Trails are very well marked. The park looks a lot bigger on the map than it feels in real life. A great park for smaller-tired rigs. Only a few really challenging obstacles out there. I was the only person there for the first few hours, then one Grand Cherokee showed up and left about 2 hours later. We covered the whole park twice over in under 4 hours, then hit the road.

Only other signs of life on the trail

This one got pretty real. I couldn't go forward, and couldn't get straight enough on the slab to go backwards, and ended up pulling rope, thinking being upside-down by myself wouldn't be very smart.

Wifey did not like this
