I got word today that Mr. Frieling passed away yesterday, November 28. Services will be Monday, but that's all the information I have right now. I will update this thread as more information becomes available.
1st experience wheeling was on his property. He was a really nice guy that could talk your ear off but always had knowledge to share. He will be missed.
Great guy and was always hospitable to the wheelin community. His stories about the government and the UFO's on his property, the fact you could hanglide all the way to Tulsa from the top of his mountain, the swimming hole with a sand beach he was building up on the top of the mountain, etc., are still talked about around campfires to this day. Awesome guy and he will be missed.
The first place I ever went rock crawling was out at his place. He was a great guy and I sat for many hours talking to the man. He had some great stories. RIP old timer, you will be missed.
Wounder if we could do a run to raise money for the family.. if anyone knows of any..... Maybe someone in clayton can get ahold of them some how ans we can help set it up!!!!! So how much he really ment to the 4x4 world and how much he helped use get it goin down there
A Talihina man died Wednesday from a possible heart attack after a car wreck in Latimer County, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Weldon Frieling, 70, was driving a 2001 Ford Escape Wednesday at approximately 1:30 p.m., the report states. He was heading southbound on Cardinal Lane, approximately 13 miles south of Wilburton in Latimer County, when the vehicle departed the roadway to the left and struck a tree, the report states. Frieling was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and OHP Trooper Josh Davies, of the LeFlore /Latimer County Detachment, investigated the accident.
As far as I know, he has no family in the area. As mentioned above, he does have a daughter but I don't know her name. Services will be held Monday at the Talihina Funeral Home chapel.
Very sorry to hear this, he actually rode with our group last spring, trying to show us where he thought a good trail could be made. He was a very interstring man and I am sorry we will not be able to ride with him again.
He was a great man. He was always so glad to see everyone and helpfull with anything anyone needed. It has always been and still is one of my favorite places to wheel, and he will be missed.
I hope somehow the land stays open. I am sure the land goes to his daughter? A frielings memorial run could be cool. He was a hoot and always seemed pleased to.have people there. I called him a few times just to let him know we were coming and he was always happy to oblige. His dogs scared me though.
A guy in the wheeling areas thread said he wheeled there last weekend. He posted a local wrecker service that can get in touch with the family.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
