Hey guys I am just trying to find out as much info about disney as possible. Me and a couple of friends were gonna make the drive out from Louisville, ky for a long weekend June 8th. First off is it worth a 9 hr drive? Do you know how many acres it is approximatley? Just wondering if there is enough there for 2 or 3 days of wheeling? I have seen some of the big obstacles like viagra but is there good trail riding too? Probably the biggest thing how can i find out if the flood gates are gonna be open or not???
Thanks for any info on this area!
PS already been told about PJ burgers and hogans campground LOL
I agree. I went for a day and I barely rode/did anything. I drove down the riverbeds and went up a few climbs. I think it would be worth the drive. I've been to both Arkansas and Disney. I think they are both worth the drive.
Yea I went to hot springs last year for 4 days and loved it! Would go back there anytime! Thanks for all the replies... Midwesteacer, do you know the what the address of the site is to check on the gates?
Jeeprocks86. Your handle sounds familiar... Do we know each other? Are you on moaboffroad.com forum?
Disney is fun for a few days. U can do everything there in a day easy. U will find urself on the same trails / obstacles over again after the first day. Since u haven't been before I'm sure u can stay entertained for 2-3 days. It would be worth it to hit Clayton which is about 3-4 hrs south. You won't be disappointed
X2. I like Disney for a day but that is about all there is. After that you will more than likely be running over the same stuff. Clayton specifically Green Acres is the S$$T. If I was going to drive 9 hours to wheel I would do a day at Disney and then head to Green Acres.
yea i was thinking about hitting clayton on the the way home.. maybe stay at disney for a day and a half and then the same at clayton??? We are really making this trip because a friend of mines truck burnt to the ground in tulsa on the way to moab for ejs. He has to go back out there to get his trailer so we decided to make a wheelin trip out of it lol!!!
Yeah yeah rub it in. So what if my truck caught fire. Like you needed an excuse to hit some new trails! Plus it gives you some incentive to get your junk put back together! Added bonus is I won't have any more 6.0 liter Ford issues! Hopefully the new tow rig will fare a little better
I personally would not drive 5 hrs. for it. I go there for a close shake down run or something like that. They have created a couple big bounty hill type hill climbs for the rock bouncer crowd. Its a fun place for 1 day, trails are moderate. There is a motor cross track if your into that. Absolutely no rocks. Most the time when i wheel in Ky I go to Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge (Slade, ky), or Harlan. Or I go to TN to windrock, or Jelico.
Edit: Guess I should have asked what your rig is built like. If you are in a stockish or mild built jeep you will have a ball... If you are on 42's stretched, coilovers blah blah blah you will be bored after a day.
I've got no rocks here in the flatland so I guess that's out. I've been to Harland loved that may be goog back there memorial weekend. Would love to tag along when you head out to disney been to smorr twice that would be a good long weekend filler
Absolutely... Feel free to come out and ride. You should get on moaboffroad.com and request to have access to the wheelers guild section. On there you will see where me and a couple others are planning to make the trip.
That would be awesome...register on moaboffroad.com and ask for access to the wheelers Guild section so you can follow along with our plans. My name is Ben by the way!
Clayton, at Green Acres, you pay to wheel and keep going as long as you want!! Been on that mountain every hour of the day and night, rain and shine, at some point. It's worth the trip as long as you're mildly/well built and run bigger than 35's. anything less you won't have much fun. It's a little more hard core than SMORR and not nearly as nice.
Founding member of the I.A.T.S., offending some, confusing most. :flipoff2:
yea we are pretty well built... 40's, i think are the smallest tire 43's sx's the biggest, 60's and 14 bolts, stretched... mine is under the knife right now trying to hurry up and get it done so this isnt my test and tune run lol
Speaking of disney, A buddy and I are going up on the 10th if anyone want's to meet up. Gonna be my first trip in the new rig so gonna see how it does, plan on waterfall, staircase and everything else out there being my bitch!
We are thinking about coming down in a few hours from Wichita Ks and was wondering if anyone was down there already and had some info on the water, besides 4 gates being open lol
