Clayton, OK

Been looking for somewhere to take a good wheeling trip. It's about a nine to ten hour drive for me. How is it? The pictures I have seen are awesome but is there enough to make a week out of? Is it somewhere you can get around on your own with a map or do you need someone showing you around? Looking to hit the hard stuff but also not looking to destroy something the first day out. Any help out there?

Search here for a recent thread on Clayton. Tons of wheeling to last a week. It is about 10 hours for me also, well worth it

Wes,
IMHO I think this would be a great place for a week of wheeling.
Theres 3 places to wheel in Clayton, Frielings 8 miles N, Three Stage 3 miles S, Green Acres in town. Trails range from Easy Accessible fire roads, to Novice to XXXTREME. If you do break Slim at Slims Offroad in town will ussally
do what it takes to get you fixed. If he dont have the parts laying around he can usally make it. A couple friends of mine was camping at Green Acres this past week-end.

I saw that thread. Some good info. but I could use some info. about trail maps and how difficult the trails are to find. Also, anything anywhere near there for the women to do during the day?

Wes,
Niether Green Acres or Frielings has maps. You can pick up a map of Three Stage at Indian Mound camp ground when you check in. As for the ladies,
Clayton is a very small town. However there is some shopping 30-45min. north, 1 hr west, or 1 hr south.
Do you know when you might planning this?

Green Acres is a simple place to figure your way around. Its almost impossible to get lost - you can always find your way to the main road that runs through the bottom. I have heard of some groups with GPS maps through there as well but i've never seen one.

Let me know a little ahead of time and I'll try and make arrangments to go to clayton and show you around if possible. I'm losing my job so I may have a little time around then. You'll have a ball, I am not sure it is really a full weeks worth though, but it will be close.

Depends on how many broken parts he has. If he runs out of stuff to do he can always load up and head over to Hot Springs on the way home.

My wife and I are having a baby like the week before the trip that we had planne almost 18 months ago. If I go I think my wife will kill me.

Lots of good wheelin, I see a lot of guys make a week out of Hot Springs, Clayton, and Disney. Clayton is easier if you have someone that knows the area, but you can do it on your own.
