If you come out the top of cream puff and head back toward the main trail 12 I believe fish fossil will be one of those trails on the left just as your getting back to 12. It comes out just below the entrance of Lil Jager. I have never ran it but have noticed it. Some of our group said it was a fun trail for smaller tires.

Our group found and ran it today going down from little jagger side. Thanks for all the replies. Had some major carnage today when a guy in our group on 40's tried little jagger and annihilated his dana 300, Will try and post a pic.

When you pass the waterfall on 12 near the beginning you will come to a fork in the road. The main trail branches to the right and goes towards lower rock garden. There are two trails to the left which are Shameless and Intimidator. To get to fish fossil bear to the left just a little and go straight. Imagine a Y with another fork in the middle.

Hey Guys, Can anyone recommend a nice Cabin rental near the trail head?
Between 4 to 6 beds/Jeeps and parking for tow rigs. We where there 3 years ago and stayed at Harlan County Campground but would like to try a different place. |

black mountain cabin rentals sucks. i stayed there last year and it sucked. the putney side has some nice cabins but your away from everything. Id look into renting a house. we rented one from a guy named earnest for 100 bucks a night and it had 15 beds

We have rented a house there once as well and it was cool, but the cabins were just easier. (the house was a bit outside of Evarts back towards Harlan, so we had to trailer in and out every day).

Thats it. Cabins are cool but we normally rent a house. Evarts makes our Harlan trip IMO.

we stayed in the cabins last year and our bed rolled from one side of the cabin to the other, here is a pic showing how un level it was. Plus we found out the hard way on our last day that in order for the bathroom light to work the living room light had to be on. I wont stay there again unless they drop theyre rates, you can rent a house for the cost of one of thoose "cabins". as far as the people who rent them, no issue there they were plenty nice, just need to make some upgrades, and i agree staying in evarts is ALOT better than being way the hell over on the putney side. here was our cabin and a few other pics. ![]() ![]() I'm a very lucky man to have this great woman in my life, she loves it up there. ![]() IF you also notice this was the end of august last year when the hurricane hit VA and the north. We were in jeans and Ts. About 70 degrees during the summer up there.

We got stuck with a "flat" last year and ended up at the holiday inn, the little cabin had no water pressure, and was simply an empty room with a bed and a tv. It was pretty terrible. We have been renting cabins up there since 08-09, back when they used to have towels, linens, and blankets included, Now you have to bring all your own (which isnt a big deal i guess) But still well worth the price, being that it always rains when we go in april and october! |

Our club is heading to Harlan 8/3-8/5.
This is our first trip to Harlan. At this point we are planning on staying at the Harlan Co. campground. Looking for some advice on what trails to hit and if the campground is the way to go. This is my CJ. ![]() My buddy has a YJ that is similar on 36s and most of the other rigs on on 33s. Thanks in advance. Last edited by 1981CJ7; 07-24-2012 at 06:30 AM. |

Just buy a map and tart checking them off your list. If it is wet you might have trouble with the middle rock garden, your turn, underestimated and Crawford's cry. Not saying other trails will be easy on smaller tires but those will make you work for it! |

it does, i belive its gravel? the south evarts is paved. both are good. i personally like south evarts for 2 reasons
its close to all the food ![]() ALOT of people ride at night and id imagine that the trailhead campground stays pretty loud on a side note has anyone ever camped up at coyote camp or the camp by upper rock garden? is there any other camps like on the other side over by lions den and mason jar?

We have stayed at Harlan Co. Campgrounds a few times on atvs, great people and fairly nice cabins. If I remember correctly it a fair distance to the good trails from there but it beats hauling.

One note on the lofts! Bring a pair of shoes to bed with you! The ladder has round rungs on it and hurts your feet like hell when you get in and out of the loft.

^This is the absolute truth. You've gotta go around your elbow to get to your ass to get across the park to get to the decent stuff over by the Lower Rock Garden, Rail Bed, etc. Not much really over on the Putney side. Its a slight bit closer to Lions Den but thats about it.
