Windrock

Anyone been to Windrock lately? The last time I went was 5 years ago, planning a trip there for next month. I heard the new campground is nice. How are the trails now?

Windrock is great, the campground is very nice and with 72000 acres to play on, I am sure you can find a trail or 10 that you like. Our club has been to several off road parks and it’s hard to beat the trails and accommodations that Windrock has to offer.

I live here in Oliver Springs and have rode Windrock since I was just a weetott and I never get tired of it. scottal and I ride together in a club called the TN MTN JUNKIES, let us know when you are coming and we will see if we can find some hospitality for you. You can find us on facebook as well.

As for he Trash? It’s a battle for sure....so haul out what you haul in, and if you see it pick it up! Or were you talking about the Locals?????

I would suggest to ride trails:

Fun but not 100% Xtreme Trails- 21, 15, Little mule, School Bus, Stair Steps, then 3. in that order. Trail 16and 18 are easy ridin stuff. Also 13 to 12 (creek trail) come out on 9 is a fun run.

More Xtreme- 39 is very do-able without winching, Rail Trail, 23 (atomic ridge), rattle rock, rock garden off trail 16 you should expect either possible breakage and/or winching.

I was up there in march and had a BLAST with a group riding ATV's. You can't go and have a bad time but it will take some time to figure your way around. Coming from west TN, I can't get over just how big the park is.

About the trash, we kept getting caught up behind a group of about 40 ATV and SxS's. Most of the riders were drunk and/or drinking. The woods was their trash can and they didn't pass any opportunity to get off the trail and tear up the woods . We considered talking to a few of them but people get crazy sometimes and it just wasn't worth it.

I love Windrock! Need to get back there soon!

What is this I hear about Trash? People just being slobs and careless? On the trails or just at the campgrounds?

We carry trash bags with us where ever we go wheeling and not only clean up behind us but messes others make. Shame we can't keep wheeling spots cleaner. Just one more reason for folks to try to get places shot down.

DO NOT SPEED TROUGH OAK RIDGE. They have radar detectors on the stop lights. I was up there a few weeks ago and just got a $50 speeding ticket with a pic of my truck and tag enclosed in the envolope in the mail. I was doing 44 in a 35 somewhere in town. I wasnt in a hurry and must have missed the 35 sign somewhere.
Sure makes you feel welcomed when your spending hundreds of dollars over the course of the weekend in their town.

We went during the woodsbuggy hillclimb about a month ago and like said before the trails are changing constantly. Still a great place to ride as always!

GMACK192---TN MTN JUNKIES is a fairly new club based out of Oliver Springs, but we have members in all of the surrounding counties. When you log into to Facebook use the search tab and type in TN MTN JUNKIES, and we should pop up. My name is Wes Ogle, I will also pm you my number so you can give me a shout. We are basically just tight group of good ol' boys that have a passion for off-roading. Right now we have approx. 18 families/rigs as members. We ride at Windrock alot and we also take some trips to other parks, such as Harlan and Golden Mtn. We are going to Mayhem in McMinville this weekend to watch the hill climb competition that Crawl Mag is puttin on and hopefully do a little riding, come on if you want.

As far as the trash goes, people like that are the reason for the problem. Our club takes pride in the fact that we have a park like Windrock so close to home, therefore we will chew some a** for people throwing trash out. I dont care how big of a boy they are...

Amen brotha! As I said we pick up trash where ever we wheel. Just an idea for a club fund raiser. A few I've seen that make a lot of sense are raising money for purchased trash bins for parks. This was done for Morris Mountain (MSORP). Bins are in camping and trail areas. Easier said than done with 72,000 acres I'm sure.

I've been involved in many clean up efforts like when Telico was open. We use to hold clean up rides there. Might be an option for our club to promote Windrock and help cleanup efforts.

Maybe adding something to the waiver (if not already in the waiver) signed that says wheelers are responsible for their own trash and will be held responsible for it if caught. As in removed form park etc.... That may take some of the "BIG BOY" syndrome out of it. Let the park deal with them....

I know we all say who gives a rat's ass someone else can clean it up but with all the tree huggers wanting to close down our wheeling spots we need to think about this type of activity. The other thing is oil and other fluids where the EPA can come down on the parks. All unneeded "plublicity" for the wheeling community.

Just my .02 cent's on the matter. Sorry to preach/be compassionate about it....I just feel we have every right to wheel as others have to hug the trees and such! We just don't need to give fuel for their cause and not our own!

The Trash problem isnt horrible but it could be better. We always take out more trash than we bring in also, and the park already has alot of trash cans at the parking lot and camp ground but none on the trail. With windrock being so large they would have to a dedicated person to pick it up. Also The park does have rules about littering but they they are limited on security on the trail.

Therefore its up to the riders to police each other to keep the problem from getting any worse.

Very true! Comes back to being responsible wheelers I guess! All I know is if you ever have a clean-up ride up there I'll being some folks to help! I missed the one they had at Aetna Mnt TN the last time. Another place not helping our image IMO. It was littered with stuff including burnt up abandoned rigs/cars/etc last time I was there. I guess that's another story........

Again not to kick a dead horse. We plan on coming up there to ride soon and don't mind coming with tons of garbage bags to help the cause!

Purplezuki--Heck yeah There is a bunch of stuff to ride here in the hills of TN. The main difference is that the trails are typically a little further apart, so you just have to group trails together based on where they are. Also, we like beatin on our junk just as much as the next hardcore wheeler but its nice to hit some of the easier stuff and trail ride once in a while too. So basically Windrock has something for all types...Hell its looking like Coal Creek needs to hire me to advertise for them...lol. Maybe I will look into that....

Thanks for the offer and will do! First round is on me sir!

I'm with a bunch of groups/clubs....When I say us though I'm usually referring to my family and our best friends who also wheel as a family. Our wife's have their own rigs and kids wheel too........ Often we ride with other groups/clubs or at least the folks we like to be associated with and even more so trust being on the trail with and now they got are backs too!

Oh yeah and watch out for purplezuki (Julio) he's nawking futs! Just ask him he'll tell ya! JK! Great crazy guy he is (Said like yoda!) He's in one of the groups I hang out with.
