Fuel and Temp gauge problem

Recently bought an 82 Scrambler. Runs great and looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Needs some things done. I installed new fuel and temp gauges and they 'peg' to hot and/or full immediately. Replaced temp sending unit but still nothing. Anyone know where to start looking ?
