Morton Peak

Based on the info we got here, we decided to try staying the night at the fire lookout tower on Morton Peak. It was a lot of fun and definitely a different way to camp. The road up is ok for a 2 wheel drive truck but I think a car would be pushing it. There is not a lot to do at the actual tower so after we checked in at the ranger station and found our way up to the tower, we took the long way to Angelus Oaks and then dropped down to Thurman Flats for a picnic and to play in the creek. You can also drop down to the backside of the 7 Oaks damn and there may be some actual wheeling down there. The only issue we had was the ranger station did not have our reservation. Apparently between the booking company and the ranger station someone dropped the ball. It was not a big deal during the week, but if someone else had walked in and reserved the tower, we would have been SOL.

Very cool! Did the Ranger have any recomendations to fix the reservation mixup? How was the water level behind the dam? Any complaints from the wifey (mine would never go overnight)?

Let me know next time you go wheeling and maybe we can tag along from Redlands!

The ranger was cool and just had us sign the waiver and gave us the keys. We did not make it down to the dam but its a pretty easy road from the tower. I am very lucky my wife is pretty tolerating of all my vices. She and my son had a good time. I would live to have some people to go wheeling with. I bought this truck after I got home from deployment and frankly the truck is a more capable wheeler than I am. PM me if you want and we can set something up.
