I should make it! count me in if nothing comes up at the last minute

mule canyon is marked by a street sign, i believe. if you look at any online map, you can easily see that mule canyon is about 5 miles east of the ghost town off of ghost town road.

Take the ghost town off ramp toward calico. follow the road about a mile or so past calico you will see the road sign on the left

Mule canyon is a graded dirt road not hard at all. there are side roads that can be fun but mostly its just a cool place to cruise. doran and oddesa are a little harder but still not bad

Do you all want to turn this day in a canyon exploring day? I've always wanted to explore the canyon that starts on the east side of the range and travels up and towards the west. I google earthed it and it looks doable maybe. I've even flown over it more then a dozen times. I have a winch with a winch block and straps.

Its just a thought. Maybe go find the entrance at least and do a quick 1 hour hike to see what its about.

THis one is zoomed in some more on the entrance. The Lat and Longs are in the upper site bar at the end with the zoom:

Here is another pic max zoom:

climbing and heading west up the range:

Some more. This area I can't tell from the shadow, but this are might be hairy:

thoughts, ideas?

mule canyon/ghost town road is just the meeting point.
i haven't been to calico since i was a stock 2wd. i don't know the trails, and im all for exploration.
all i know is where gatekeeper is, and a few guys from other boards are going who are IFS, and they won't be able to do the difficult stuff.

there is a trail that is near the gate keeper.... if it was a "Y", the gate keeper would be to the left, and if you went right, you would go through a short canyon that lead to this- i want to see where it goes.

That sounds like an idea. After that, I would like to find the entrance of what I want to explore if we have time after wards.

Marty I know where that canyon is at I,ve been up there a few times but have never been thru all of it. I am bringing the f-toy this time. you might recall the trip with Wayne and Jon dropping into doran from the top that was fun but not in a stock sami. There is a small cemetary near the entrance to the canyon you want to check out

If you stay to the right at the "Y" to Gatekeeper, you end up on Odessa Canyon. If you take Gatekeeper, it turns into Doran Canyon. The bypass to the Gatekeeper for Doran is on the left when you first come into the valley from the road off the highway. It takes up top and along the ridge then drops you into Doran Canyon just above the Gatekeeper.
