It has to do with some requirements (financial and environmental) being imposed on the event.

Yeah I heard the good ol' BLM wants like an outragous amount for each spectator and then a big lump sum on top of that for damages done to the trails by spectators. I personally could give a rats ass if they let spectators in or not, it will be alot less trash to clean up, but this just shows how gov't run agencies are nothing more than the strong arm for the Socialist Liberal Eco-Nazis that want to protect us and them from everything . What's that guys name that comes to mind that always reintroduces some kind of wildlife BS every year...

Oh yeah... Sen. DumbDick Bingaman D-NM!

I think Sceep calls em C A V E people. (C itizens A gainst V irtually E verything) Dumbdick falls into that catogory.

The BLM is turning into the enemy here Nate, not us. BLM is the ones inforcing a spectator fee. The LCFWDC has to do what is in their best interest to have the event, get the permits and work with local enforcement and public. I don't see this as LCFWDCs fault, it soley rests on the heads of the BLM in Las Cruces.

Spectators are expensive and complicated to insure around... I'd guess that it ain't that the BLM is specifically disallowing this, but rather, that the requirements they have put on it make it financially infeasible for Chili Challenge to allow spectators. Thus, it is the BLM's rules raising the cost, and the Chili Challenge committee's

Previous permits probably focused on 'Recreational Use Days' only for the participants.

Basically, events big enough to be on the BLM's radar have to support the full requirements of larger events, festivals, and races. If you're a smallish event, the insurance alone is nearly enough to kill the event... so many events try to stay 'below the radar' and under the size thresshold that triggers requirements for insurance, cost recovery, and staff.

It sucks.

Randii (who's permitted events in Moab with BLM)

p.s. Our federal agencies have been doing more 'cost recovery' for permits, and this may be another reason why it is too expensive to allow...

Committee's, insurance, cost recovery, permits, BLM and federal agencies are what make things too expensive and complicated, Not the events or its organizers. For 15 years this has never been an issue and this year, the year some bullsh!t wildlife bill that will probably pass goes thru, it's an issue. Those are also all fine examples of whats wrong with our society in this country. Everybody has to have their hand in the fuckin cookie jar and be damned if uncle sam or some fuckin insurance company misses out on some money from spectators enjoying themselves! Every fuckin thing has to be allowed, permitted, insured and safe beyond safe. It's all very simple, there's too many fuckin people on this planet for us all to get along. There is too many ambulance chasing lawyers in our country and too many sue happy pussies in the world. So we all must adapt, change and evolve. Maybe the eco green-nazis should try it too. You don't hear of issues in Baja about insuring all the spectators lined up and down the race course. It's all mumbo jumbo big business legal jargin BULLSH!T! And we are all supposed to sit back and allow the guberment to tell us what we have rights to. Great society we live in!

Edit: I'm sure this is due to pressure from the local community as well. The Eco-Green Wildlife Nazis are going to the people of these communities like Las Cruces and getting the people on their side. We write letters to poloticians who are bought and paid for and their votes are traded like stock on a daily basis. Useless in my book. My Senator, Sylvestor Reyes does and votes for whatever the fuck he wants to, every letter written by OHV enthusiasts around here are basically told to eat shit! Unless the offroad community starts to line the poloticians pockets, donate to their campaign funds and give them equal or better than what these wildlife fucktards are contributing to them... we will soon start losing all land issue battles... thats how I see this fucked up world!

Is there any reason this information can not be posted publicly?
So far all of the WAZ group is out.

I'm pretty sure it's just the trails in the immediate area around airdown and the spectator spot above air down.

Welcome to the future of the end of this and many other sports that use public lands in a way that the powerful minority deems inapropriate. Dark times ahead for outdoor recreation involving engines.

We can't say anything official yet because negotiations are still underway. We should know something next week.
