Florence REAL reasons for closure..... Mining???
Okay I have been reading left and right trying to find out the real reason as to why Florence is closing, and if I understand correctly the BLM bs'ed straight out to the people saying that they were closing the FJ area to preserve hieroglyphics and historical buildings when the real reason is because they're getting a ton of ($$$) from ASARCO to mine there..... Which in turn will ruin the hills, pollute the rivers, etc, when the wheelers already had an agreement with BLM to keep the area open and preserved??
Is this true? If so I'll put in the first $100 towards an attorney.

I work for a mine outside of benson I can see if I can't find something out for you about it. But asarco is laying off people like crazy and I'm not sure if they actually have to money to build another mine out there but I could be completly wrong. The only way I could see them building a mine out there is if they surveyed it and did core samples and there is a massive size copper vien in there that would be worth the millions to set up a mine. But I could be totally wrong ill see what I can find out for you tho.

The planning and permitting process can take many, many years for a large scale mine, many different government agencies are invloved. I'm thinking they are just planning ahead to get the red tape out of the way.
I doubt if some minor little thing like a bankruptcy would hold up this if the mineral reserves are really there. There may be many millions or even hundreds of millions of dollars involved They may also be trying to get this thru just to increase their company assets value on paper.

Hayseed your right it does take years roughly 4 that's what a mine trying to open out at rosemont junction is at right now. Cause there is a lot of red tape like you said but asarco has been in the bankruptcy court for 3 years now.And they have been in court with grupo which is a multi million dollar company in mexico. The judge in elpaso just appealed it cause grupo did cheat asarco out of money and grupo appealed the decision meaning that it will be tied up in the court for along time till someone gives up. And Grupo wants asarco pretty bad from wht I understand and they have the money to fight it ya pretty much its who has the bigger balls and the most money in hand. Plus as soon as all the court bs is done satelite is suppose to be the company buying asarco out but grupo is still offering asarco more money to sell it to them.Grupo owned asarco once before and grupo is one of the most jacked up minning companies out there they mess a lot of shit up.

So even if FJ does get taken we still have a few years left of enjoyment?

Can you post up some of your sources? I was talking to my steel salesman last week and he indicated to me that one of his Customers was starting development of a new mine outside of Superior that was supposed to be one of the richest ore bodies ever discovered in North America. The catch is that it is going to be a very deep mine, and will be on the order of 15 years before it produces. I'm not in copper mining, so I didn't ask many questions, but next time I see him I will see what else he knows.

There is a lot of info here, I'm not going to link what I have seen posted about the mining operation but yes there is something going on there that involves a chapter11 bankruptcy settlement and water rights/land rights etc in order to save the company involving paying for an environmental clean up on one of asarco's earlier projects. chapter11 more less means you can continue to work without paying debts (as I know of it). I personally think that this topic is something that should be saved for a later time (such as a law suit, after the current plan is officially released). There is still allot that can be done prior to that. The link in my sig is not 35% so check that too, and send out a letter if you haven't its not to late for that, they are still considering our comments! 400+ letters went out already and part of the problem is DD stock guys vs the hard core group. We want to keep open overdose they want the bumpy road to the cabin left open. Personally I'd like to see the cabin remain open but it is of no use to me as unique offroad trail if you get my drift. |
