1986 Ford Bronco MONSTER TRUCK, 48" Tires Rockwell axles - $9500 NC


Howdy all. This has been my project truck for about 10 years now. If you have ever wanted to build a monster truck but didn't know where to start here is one that is almost ready to go. Here are some specs:

Truck: 1986 Ford Bronco, Eddie Bauer edition 4x4 Cloth seats

Motor: 1978 460, fresh rebuild (less than 400 miles on it)

* Bored .030 over with 1:9.5 compresion
* RV Camshaft for stump-pulling torque
* Crank ground .010/.010 with all fresh bearings
* new lifters and rods
* heads shaved and rebuilt
* Ford Racing Aluminum valve covers
* Edelbrock duel plane intake
* Holly Carb
* MSD Offroad electronic ignition

Transmission, C6 Fresh rebuild (less than 400 miles)

* New clutch packs
* valve body rebuilt with mild shift kit
* RV torque converter for low lockup

Transfercase, NP205 Fresh rebuild

* all new bearings and seals
* 1410 U-Joint on rear (never got one for the front but it is a bolt on)

Axles 2.5 ton Military Rockwells

* Hubs flipped front and rear
* Bearings repacked
* 1410 Ujoints front and rear
* pinion shaft mounted disk brake in rear
* comes with one Detroit locker (not installed)

Suspention:

* 19" of lift over stock total
* 12" coil springs on 7" WELDED blocks
* Triangulated four link in front
* rear is welded blocks with stock leafs.
* I reposistion the rear leafs underneth the frame for more flex and did a shackle flip. The rear needs a anti wrap bar fabricated

Tires/Wheels

* Wheels are military 2.5 ton 20" steel
* Tires are 48" Michilin brand new retreded XLM's

Other Misc

* I gutted the dash, it now has a custom aluminum panel dash with speedo, tach, oil/water/volt meter. It has a CD player and CB Radio installed in the dash. I replaced the factory speakers with aftermarket speakers (but no sub). The fuese box is on the outside of the dash, no more fumbling around upside down looking for bad fuses.

* The motor has a onboard air compressor and a onboard welder (needs to be wired up)

* 8,000 pound warn winch

* Optima off-road battery

Here is what the truck needs to be finished:

Exaust; I had headers on it, they went right where the front driveshaft needed to go so I put on the cast iron exaust manifolds and never had the exaust run

Front drive shaft; Has the rear one, just needs the front

Some work to the wiring; the battery wires have rusted and probably need replacing, sometimes it will start sometimes it won't, it is a wire problem

Rear anti wrap bar OR rear lift springs; whatever you want to do, but it will suffer from axle wrap bigtime as is

reweld front four link brackets; Very simple operation, I just welded the brackets on to close together

Welding shock mounts and installing shocks

Overall this is a 98% done truck. I have invested (sunk) over 20K into it. It was very theriputic at the time, but I haven't serioulsy wrenched on it in about 2 years. Take her away for $9,500 and finish it off and enjoy it.

Ryan, I think you are right, primarily mud (to ugly to be show). My intention was to build a mild rockcrawler/daily driver.

It started with a camshaft swap into the stock small block; that quickly morphed into a big block swap. While the motor mounts were on order I decided a rebuild was worth while as long as I was going thorough all the effort to swap mills so I rebuilt the 460 and tranny. I drove it around town some in that configuration (including a 180 mile round trip on the highway) and I blew out the stock NP-208. So I rebuilt and swapped in a NP-205. The 205 necessitated new drive shafts so I figured as long as I was going to get new shafts I might as well swap in D-60's front and rear with bigger yokes. Well the D-60's morphed into 2.5T rockwells for several reasons (mostly availability and cost). The Rockwells necessitated major lift to clear the front motor crossmemeber so up it went. About that time a buddy of mine who had ordered the 48's for his project had given up and sold his truck so I bought the tires from him and the fit the lift great. For the past 3 years I have been away from the truck as a full time caregiver to my Grandfather (he passes this past October) and now that I have free time again I really don't have any steam left to finish the project. The truck is in a Storage yard and costing me $25 a month to sit there. Last time I started it up about a year ago it ran fine and I drove it around the yard (although it needs a rear anti-wrap bar, you have to stay out of the skinny pedal).

As an update to the description, I did have some exhaust put on, just straight pipes so I won't burn any valves running open headers.

Also I am open to trades, I just don't want any boats or non-running projects

Added new photos of engine, suspention, and interior. Please remember, the Rear Suspention is NOT COMPLETE (sorry I get snide comments about leaves and block everytime I post photos).

The stock leafs in-boarded and bolted onto lift blocks that are welded to the axle. IMHO the rear NEEDS to be 4 linked. The stock leafs are nice and flexy but DO NOT CONTROL AXLE WRAP; I DO NOT THINK A LIFT LEAF WOULD EITHER. There is a lot of mass in the axle and tire that dosn't want to move when you step on the skinny pedal. This is one of the places the buyer needs some fabing skill. You either need to four link the rear and leave the stock leafs (now delegated only to spring duty, not axle locating duty) or get stiff lift leafs and do a heavy duty ladder bar set up. If you do a 4 link you could even go Coil springs in the rear.
