John Reynolds #427 - Pirate4x4.com

John "JR" Reynolds is well known on Pirate4x4.com for his cool Bronco, smooth French Horn skills, and his smokin' hot wife Marilyn. He is also one of our sponsored drivers for the King of the Hammers race in Johnson Valley.

John's "Bronco" has seen many changes over the years since Fat City first built his original Bronco back in the day. His current Bronco was built by Rob Park and JR himself in 2005 and has seen some refinement over the past four years.

JR won the original King of the Hammers "practice" race in 2007 and was a favorite for taking the win at the 2008 King of the Hammers race. JR and his co-driver Chris Ridgeway were a major feature in Hammerking Production's documentary film about the 2008 race. He was confident in both his Bronco and his ability to pull off a win, but unfortunately the unforgiving rocks of Johnson Valley had other plans for JR. While leading the race, the Bronco suffered major breakage in the final hundred yards of the last rock course known as Outer Limits. His hopes of beating all of the big sponsored names in rock crawling were gone. But knowing JR, that did not dampen his spirits, it only made him even more hungry for a win. The pictures you see here are the more refined, faster, more nimble 2009 KOH Pirate4x4 Bronco.

Some of the improvements JR has made to the Bronco for the 2009 race include:

  • It’s GREEN and black
  • BFG tires
  • Reinforced link captures (Duh!)
  • Castrol SRF brake fluid and forced air brake cooling
  • Re-routed fuel return lines to fuel tank
  • All new portal boxes
  • Completely re-done steering plumbing with huge stacked row cooler and 7 quart fluid capacity
  • Lower stall speed torque converter
  • Massive stacked row transmission cooler high cfm puller fan
  • Engine oil cooler
  • Better air ducting to engine radiator
  • Dyno tuned
  • Two legged co-driver
  • Suspension tuning

JR's goals for the race is of course to win.

"Second place is the first loser. I plan to race hard, but smooth. I will be patient and wait for others to make mistakes. I will also try not to shit my pants. That would suck." Says JR.
