Kevin Sacalas went into last week’s BITD Silver State 300 with one goal: to prove he was a contender in the Ultra4 class. He did just that! At the end of 300 miles, one minute 18 seconds is all that separated Sacalas, the 2009 Vegas to Reno winner, from Loren Healy, the 2010 King of the Hammers winner. Ultimately, as they crossed the finish line, following a 90+ MPH drag race through the silt beds of the Nevada desert, Healy would take 1st with Sacalas coming in a close 2nd. Silver State 300 was Sacalas’ 3rd Ultra4 race in the 4435 car he built in his garage that fans have affectionately dubbed, “Big Ugly.”
