Joint Force Racing forms to compete for the King of the Hammers crown.

( In case you aren't familiar with King of the Hammers race, be sure to check out the preview for the feature-length movie of the 2009 race. )

Ottawa,ON / Mahopac, NY:  What do you get when you combine "The Mouth of New York" with "The Brain from the North"? What happens when you combine the driving talent and balls-out style of ex-rock crawling champion Charlie Melchner (NY) with the technical skill and worldwide popularity of Pirate4x4.com's chief technical editor Bill "BillaVista" Ansell (ON, Canada)?

You get Joint Force Racing, a dynamic racing team recently formed to compete and win in the exploding arena of rock sports motor racing.

The team name originates from BillaVista's military background as a Combat Air Navigator, and comes from a military expression that describes the powerful synergistic effect of combining diverse capabilities into a single unbeatable force. The name is also representative of the unique international composition of the team.

Though the team maybe new, the members most certainly aren't!

Charlie "The Mouth" Melchner, four-time NEUROC Series Champion and six-time SUPERCRAWL competitor has been competing and winning at off-road and rock crawling competitions since 1999. He has competed in and finished on the podium in virtually every series there has been including PROROC, NEUROC, UROC, EROCC, WERock, XRRA, TTC and the Ramsey Offroad Challenge. He has been featured in every off-road magazine including Peterson's 4-Wheel & Off-Road, Fourwheeler, JP Magazine, Offroad, 4WD & Sport Utility, and Low Range Magazine as well as on ESPN and Speedvision. Charlie's prior sponsors include industry giants such as BF Goodrich, Quadratec, Ramsey Winch, Advance Adapters, Trailready, Paragon Adventure Park, and Tom Wood's Drive Shafts. Infamous for his natural talent, wicked sense of humour, and no-holds-barred driving style Charlie brings the passion, reputation, and drive to win that will ensure the team's success.

Renowned for his technical knowledge, military precision, and passionate dedication to the sport, BillaVista brings not only the tactical brains to the operation but also the following of hundreds of thousands of loyal readers and fans. His work has been published in magazines, in military manuals, and on-line at Pirate4x4.com where over the last few years he has enjoyed the readership of over 1.2 MILLION unique readers! His work has also been used by an extremely diverse group ranging from high school and college courses to manufacturers' R&D programs to U.S. and Canadian government training organizations.

Together, Charlie and Bill make a powerful combination of talent, dedication, and hustle that no other team can match...a joint force that can't be deterred, can't be intimidated, that doesn't feel pity, or pain, or fear; and that absolutely will not quit, ever, until it wins!

Joint Force Racing - No better friend, no worse opponent.

“Be polite, be professional...and have a plan to beat everyone you meet.”

And the team's talent doesn't stop there!

Co-owner and Team Manager Jack Bettio has been rock crawling since 1982 and competed in the very first Warn and ARCA rock crawling competitions back in 1999. Jack is a legend in motorsports circles going back many decades, having raced just about everything that can be raced - including airplanes, drag cars, dirt track, oval track, circle track, and offroad.  Jack held numerous records in NHRA drag racing back in the day and he still holds the C/GAS record. He once drove for BMW and he holds an SCCA liscence signed by none other than Roger Penske himself! Not only that, but Jack holds an automotive engineering degree, has worked with General Motors Powertrain Engineering and has been a driving instructor with the BMW and GM Performance Driving Schools. To top it all off, he is also a licensed commercial pilot - yea - that's right - Joint Force Racing has its own team pilot!

Team Philosophy:

The team’s philosophy is best summarized by the following paraphrasing of a famous quote from World War I General, Ferdinand Foch:

"Hard pressed on the right. My center is collapsing. Impossible to maneuver. Situation excellent. I am attacking."

Drawing on our combined years of experience in facing adversity in competition, on the trail, and in the shop, Joint Force Racing is in it to the end – win, break, or explode we never give in, never quit, never disappoint, and we guarantee to deliver for the fans, for the sponsors, and for the sport.

Joint Force Racing: Hustle. Loyalty. Respect.

The team's logo is based on the meteorological symbol for a typhoon - from the Greek “Typhon” a variant of the ancient Egyptian god Seth - God of Chaos and Destruction, Ruler of the Desert.

The team’s number, 69, was chosen for its similarity to the typhoon symbol as well as for its likeness to the ancient Chinese symbol Taijitu (commonly known as the "yin and yang symbol") which literally means "diagram of the supreme ultimate". It represents the natural dualities of complementary opposites within a greater whole  - the balance of  light and dark, brains and brawn, courage and cunning, hard work and hard play.
