2010 Easter Jeep Safari Stories by Charlene Bower, Lance Clifford and Camo Coverage brought to you by 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers
Media Jeeps brought to you by 4WP and Poly Performance!
Todays wheeling trip really started last night at dinner. BFGoodrich and 4 Wheel Parts took us out for some fine mexi dining where we enjoyed our favorite Tequilla concoctions. That somehow lead to getting invited to run Hells Revenge with the Rancho Suspension guys. After getting a few hours of much need sleep we were ready to get started. Only problem was everybody seemed to recall a diffrent start time. As we were waiting it became apparent just how much social lubricant we must have consumed the night before as more and more rigs started showing up. Seems we invited all our friends and lucky for us they all showed up. Drew from Poly Performance, Bond from Rebel Off Road and HitMoney had the Florida contigent of JKOwners with him. Once we hit the trail we were soon reminded just how popular EJS is. The line of jeeps was impressive.
Waiting around has its advantages as it gave us plenty of time to socialize while we played on the famous obstacles of hells revenge. Hells gate is always one of my favorites and a crowd pleaser as most of our group ran it.
Greg Adler navigates his sweet 4 door through down the gate
One of the more attention getting sections of Hells Revenge is passing the bowl. pictures do not do it justice, but I was scared.
Earlier in the week Mustard Dog put on a wild show in Devil's Hot Tub in his 4 Wheel Parts sponsored KOH racer. Nobody had the desire to repeat that so we continued on until we reached the smaller Mickey's hot tub. I say smaller, but if you have ever run it you know that it is actually steeper, just not as deep. I was first to give it a try in the brand new Smitybilt JK and after doing a wheel stand and putting the JK on the rear bumper it was decided that we should try out the Smittybilt 10k winch. Just to test the winch of course... The additional wheel base of the 4 door JK made short work of the climb.
Wheeling with newbies is always good for a laugh and watching Eric from 4 Wheel Parts was no exception. The Escalator is a challenging obstacle in a full bodied rig as the slightest error in wheel placement results in a brush against the sandstone. Eric was nervous but eager to try. And while he didn't quite pull off the line he did give us a great photo op.
Normally the fire road exit from hells revenge is less then exciting, but not when the guys from King Shocks offer to let you take their long armed suspension JK equipped with triple bypasses and coil-overs for a test drive. For a few minutes there I was having baja pre run flashbacks. This in one sweet ride that can rock crawl, trail ride and is ready to pre run any section of desert you may encounter.
