And here's what you've been waiting for!

UPDATED FRIDAY 1:15PM by Lance Clifford

David Taylor just dropped off some photos of today's action, so check out the photo gallery! We are still waiting for the official results from time trials today. I can tell you the action was off the hook, and as best as we can tell, the unoffical top three should be something like this:

1) Shannon Campbell 4:07
2) Jason Scherer 4:25
3) Roger Lovell 4:40

Here is a recap from yesterday... Today's recap is coming soon.

The highly anticipated Stampede race commenced today at Exit 28 Motorsports Park.  It was an amazing day in the Nevada Desert about 20 minutes outside of Reno, NV with fluffy white clouds in the sky covering the sun on and off, keeping the sweatshirt handy as well as the sunblock.  The Stampede race, a Qualifier for the King of the Hammers, is not an event that you will want to miss.

Almost all of the teams had registered and were out at the staging area with their rigs as prepared as they could be.  The King's were there: Loren, Jason & Shannon.  The International representative Ben Napier was there, and the female contingent Cotin Rodd.  A lot of current faces in the dirt, but excitingly there were a lot of new faces, and even some with brand new unscratched, unrolled, and unproven rigs.

The stories of the day were heavy, and there is a toss up between people saying that it is too hard, and drivers saying that it is too easy.  Hmm, should the ones saying it is too hard turn in their purses now, or the ones saying it is too easy trying to be tough.  Time will tell.

The course consumed quite a few rigs today.  There is part hunting all over Reno, wrenching happening in the staging area and hotel parking lot and the midnight oil will be burning for some of the more unfortunate teams.   There is still one blocking the course, no worries, they walked the 5 miles out and will be getting parts and going back tomorrow to fix it.  Regardless of the quality of cars and drivers, the course is rocky, rough and technical.

We checked out all the spectator areas today, and they are by far the best viewing areas around.  From the parking area you will be able to see the short course track, and from the hike up the hill you can see over 8 obstacles including a 15 ft waterfall from the Giants Throne Arena.  I say make the hike.
