Buildup a test run at TDS. |
 |
 |
| Saturday afternoon the Tin Bender
Buildup rig rolled out and in to the crowd under it's
own power! Virtually finished now, only a few items
remain to be completed off site including custom paint,
graphics, front shocks and a few nuts and bolts.
Raffle tickets sales on site at TDS continue to be
brisk. To date a combined total of over $14,000 has been
collected from raffle ticket sales. |

In order to mount the 14" travel
shocks shocks a rear bar was created that welds directly
to the frame. The come up through the bed and bolt to
the bar. Bars run from the shock bar back the the rear
bumper and serve as a mount for the spare tire. Trick
looking and functional at the same time. |

| All new, factory Toyota carpeting is
installed. Comfy Beard racing seats and Crow 5 point
safety harnesses appoint the interior. |

Building the half doors has been
a major project. The original latches are placed on top
of the new door plate for easy opening. The door hinges
have been modified to allow the doors to be easily
removed by just opening the door and picking the
door up off the hinge. |

To help make room for the huge
38" Swampers both front fenders and the firewall needed
to be opened up and made larger. The computer is moved
out of the way to prevent damage. Then the section is
cut, moved and rewelded. After the welds cool off, the
inner fenderwell is covered in rubberized undercoating
to give it a finished look (above). |

To make the custom shock hoops
needed to mount the Poly Performance shocks a manual
bender attached to section of receiver tubing is
installed into the rear bumper hitch (above).
The sides of the front bumper are cut
down and capped (left). |

The buildup is now
stretching into is second day. A major reason for this
is a huge number of emergence repairs are constantly
rolling up to the camp. Over 20 welding and mechanical
repairs have been done for attendees of the TDS event.
After the trucks are repaired the owners have have been
quite generous in buying raffle tickets for the buildup
truck. This has really boosted on site ticket sales and
helps push us closer to our goal of raising $20,000 for
for keeping trails like Paniment/Surprise Canyon open
and accessible. |

T-Max (above) donated
one of there new 9,000lb trail recovery winches.
Bolting onto the bumper and connecting the cables to the
battery was a snap. The winch control on these winches
fits nice in your have and operates nicely. The T-MAX
offers "Bearings not Bushings" and a powerful 6.6HP
series wound motor.
The Powertank found a home in the bed
were it will be permanently mounted (left).
Everyone wants to watch the
buildup! The crowd at the booth has been non stop both
days (below). |
