Fantastic job on the bumper. I didn't realize you were going to make it so finished. With that project, it would be fine a little rough around the edges. But it looks great finished too.
Good start on the pod. Cant wait to see how it comes out. Using the hood is cool, but I think you will need to make it extend back and down to the bottom of the rear bumper. Otherwise, it will be hard to load/unload. Not sure if that can be done. Is the pod going to be built as rugged as the car? I don't think you would need it quite that serious.

Thanks!
And yes, I do plan on making the C3 Pod just as rugged. It will have the same steel bumpers and brush guards, maybe even the same spare tire holder. Going for a style that will look like I can drag it through the trails with or without wheels. ![]() Trying to find a nice hard shell roof top tent that I can protect well on a rack.

In your case, you will have two full size spares on the trailer. So you might be able to get a tall/skinny tire to put on the trailer if you needed one of them to go on the car.

True, the trailer can handle some odd ball tires for a while. I am still keeping my eye out for some skinny tractor tires.

Added some removable leveling jacks in the rear. It sucks being on a big slope when you are sleeping...or other things
![]() OK so they are a little heavy duty, but it matches the rig. I'll have to make a slot somewhere to store them.

Worked out some 4 link details. Trying here to fabricate some pieces upside down before final placement.
The four link does cut in to some cargo space just as in the vette. ![]()

Are the links going to be the same length as ones on the car? Be nice for spares.

I tried to make some links the same but could not. Too many other things to juggle. Not interrupting cargo space was one. Controlling axle wrap and side sway were some others.
I am a bit nervous about how it will track on the highway. the geometry is not perfect. Pushing down on one side makes the axle move back on that side, like most (4) links. That might make trouble. It may turn into a horrific dog tail wagging trailer. Time will tell. The axle is a 4" 7k lb drop axle (with no camber) turned upside down. Gives me lots of clearance. I still need to box in some brackets and possibly move them some. All in all the height came out great with an old pair of TJ springs.

If you're not using the same links at the Vette, why not do radius/trailing arms for the trailer? Inherently they will have some anti-sway characteristics and since you have articulation in the hitch, you don't need the trailer to flex a ton. Just my $.02.

So, the body... Yes it is SCABBED up. But only to make the general shape and length. Actually looking forward to some fiberglass work.

Symmetry man. I wanted it to look the same. Just like the two more trailers that will be attached behind it, like a long centipede... JK

![]() I get it. Could be something to consider if sway becomes an issue, though.

I have some long overdue pics I should have shared of some progress on the Pod.
Trying to set up a shock tower that handles the same shocks as the vette. Problem is it is eating up some cargo space. Limit strap fully stretched. Probably will never need it. But always good to plan on holding everything together if in a nasty roll over. Lot's of clearance to drag this trailer over anything.

I was itching to get a feel for what I can carry so I mocked up the floor with a piece of plywood.
The important stuff fits... Plenty of room left for a grill, a small table, and some misc gear.

C3 Pod
A little change in pace the last few weeks. I decided to get further on the body of the Pod so I can comfortably lift it off and weld out the trailer.
I did some major surgery on the body of the pod to try and get some shape to it. It took a little practice to lay down the first layer of fiberglass. But by the second side I got it. The first side may just be a little heavier ![]() I quickly realized that "Great Stuff" really is great stuff! My first attempt with no Great stuff. I started to mock up the hood a bit meanwhile. I wanted to keep some of the shape of the rear window if I could.

Great stuff, great stuff! I can't say enough. I can shape things with a light DA sander (with no dust) rather than a grinder on fiberglass.
I did learn a few things using it... Before you put a layer of fiberglass on it, put some masking tape over it. The resin tends to melt and distort the foam some. Also, after sanding it to the shape, put the fiberglass on it within a day or two to hold shape. Because after sanding half of the foam away it wants to shrink up and pull a little bit after sitting for a while. I could not get something I liked for the rear hood transition. But... easy to rip off and try again! and again. OK... after 4 attempts, I came up with this. I think I'll run with it.
