Have some motivation

I have a 79 that is hot rodded and far from stock, and that 63-67 on the 4x4 is just wrong.

That is pretty cool. Fantastic body work! Not sure how capable it is off road.

I have an 82. I can't see anything in front of me due to line of sight and 3 mile long hood.
I would recommend a camera under the front bumper.

Ha. You got that right! That car is like driving blind, even when it's at the OEM height. The good thing is it will be waaaay easier to get in and out when I am done.

TJ Mutt....rest in peace.
Lots of good memories.... mudding, jumping, rock hopping, winching, pulling, cruising, laughing, crying and drinking

Body and motor up for grabs.

The vette chassis just left. Almost enough $s for an Atles transfer case.
Mocking the vette chassis with the Tj would not be RIP for the jeep. it would be sad.

Needed a chassis stretch of 14"

This is about as low as I can get it without changing springs. Actually way easier to get in it then the TJ was.

Roughed out some body support by mimicking the vette chassis some. It will make a great spot to mount some rock sliders.

I focused on the rear of chassis for a while. Curled the frame up to tuck it into the body. Built a mount and strap for the fuel cell. I can not wait to have a full size fuel cell again. No more 8 gallon limit behind the rear seat of the TJ.

Roughed out some bumper mounts and cross member that will keep the duel exhaust tucked away out of sight. I will have to work the sway bars in later somehow.

Well...I'm not a fan of dropping a car body onto an old 4x4 leaf spring suburban chassis and calling it done either. I want to make this thing look like it's meant to be...and kick a$$ on the trails.

With that said. I tucked the front chassis up into the body. Looks like there is still room for a good size winch in the nose. It actually helped my steering pitman arm angle a bit. However, the stock monster clunky pivoting head light assembly's will not work anymore. No room. Not a problem, looks like they go for $600 to $1200 a set on eBay. I can certainly find a solution to headlights for that kind of $.

It's getting hard to find time to work on the project. But... I did find a cool solution to my head light issue. You gotta like those the internet junk yards!

What're your thoughts on the tubework?

I am thinking of forming 1/4" plate matching the OEM nose. Then some DOM tubing that will mimic the 68 bumpers. Should be able to bounce off some trees and rocks then and have something to grab a hold of when walking around the vehicle while stuck on rocks or in the mud. That's the only thing the stinger on my TJ was good for.

Do you think that setting the head lights that far back into the body is going to impede the way they shine? Looks like you won't have much light to the left or right of the car.
