Suburban shift indicator issue

I have a 2002 Suburban and recently started having issues with the shift indicator not reading that the transmission is in Park or Neutral. This has happened off and on in the past but is more prevalent now. I'm thinking it's either in the neutral safety switch or the cable. The indicator will read P for a few seconds after I shut the key off and turn it back on but goes back off. Seriously stressed and confused as I haven't found any concrete answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Most likely a poor connection(s) in the cluster, fairly common issue with this era truck.
You can attempt to clean the contact on the back and/or push it in firmly, but in my experience, it was poor solder connection(s) inside the cluster. There are several companies that will rebuild the cluster if needed.

Would that still allow it to work everytime the key is turned off and on? Just seems extremely odd that it's only P and N and the rest of them work perfectly

Also found out today that it won't start in Neutral only Park. This leads me to think even more so that ots the Neutral Safety switch. Are any of the other suggestions likely to cause this or am I on the right path? Thanks
