See if this works... I'm still retarded with the new crap picasa has for links... otherwise, on the 67-72 site I posted them on the 14 volt vs. Ho72 thread. Somewhere i have the ID and OD differences on the bearings somewhere.

Are you sure it's a 37 tooth ring gear? 5.14 has a 36 and 7 tooth count.
Roller or tapered bearings on the pinion?

Not really. Just going off the stamping on the ring gear. I only picked up the axle for the housing, so I haven't looked at the 3rd member any more than aiming my socket at the bolts and a quick look for numbers.

On that note, there is probably the usual "been sitting 10 years" pitting from lack of adhesion in older lubes. I have one picture I took with my cell. I will get it uploaded, and maybe snap a few more, on Monday.

Its 4.57.... 32 and 7 with tapered roller bearing. So if anyone needs a ring and pinion or a bearing let me know. I would trade for 99-04 super duty unit bearings.

I wanna pick this up but my Eaton addiction has to stop somewhere... already have 1 under my rig. A couple spare 3rds and a whole spare axle I have for another future project...with that said I still want it but donít need it. Figure I would pass it on to one of you guys so Iíll stop worrying about it getting scrapped

Did someone get the tag from the Craigslist ad?
I'm looking for a nice one like that.
Guy responded once but never again.

If they are 5.14 thirds, or have Detroits and are complete, they are worth shipping them as I have a buddy or two looking for 5.14s and Detroits.

So apparently these have a side gear to carrier wear issue? I went to put the no spin in my 5.14 axle and one carrier half was worn from the side gear.. luckily I had a 4.57 third laying around that had wear on the other side so I could make one good third out of the two. I almost had to tear into one of the 2 4.10 spare axles I have.

Does anyone know of a design difference in generations of the HO72 involving spider gears and thrust washers?

I have a 4.56 third with a load bolt that has been running a set of Lincoln locked 14 bolt spiders. I picked up a Powertrax No-Slip, and it doesn't fit. When I took it apart, I noticed that it was running spiders with no trust washers on the axle sides. The thrust washer thickness appears to be about the depth missing to fit the no-spin. I'm guessing that this is an early version that didn't originally have thrust washers designed into it maybe.

Are there carriers that do use thrust washers and some that don't? Is it just that a no-slip won't fit, but a Detroit will fit some reason?

If there are different thirds that will fit this locker, anyone have a 4.56 one they'll ship to Western Colorado?

Edit: I'm on vacation for a week or so, so I'll try to get some measurements when I get back.

Has anyone found an affordable source for the Timken double row taper bearings for these axles. Best deal I have found today is $250 on ebay. I pulled my third out because there is a lot of movement between the R&P and want to fix it before it grenades.

Thanks in advance

I may have a good used unit bearing if that is truly your issue, but excessive movement between your R&P (backlash), especially in axles aw old as these, can be from spline and or tooth wear too.
